Short Answer Template

Most college papers require you to use double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font,

with 1-inch margins. This example is formatted with those requirements.

The short answer assignments must be no longer then one page. As you can see, one page

can actually have lots of information. Since these are short answers there is no need for an

introduction paragraph. However, if you are writing papers for other classes you may need to add

an introduction. The assignments may have one or two questions.

Question 1

If there are two questions then you should use headings, like the one to the left, to

organize and separate your answers. It’s also best that you start your answer by restating the

question (example below). This will help you to ensure you are answering the right question.

While some of the questions can be answered in a single paragraph, it very likely that you

need to use multiple paragraphs. Remember that paragraphs are just a group of sentences that

relate to a single thought or topic. Good writers use paragraphs, plural.

Question 2

There were several causes of the cold war. The first cause was something you should

have read about.

One of the skills necessary for college and the real world is clear writing. The best way to

become better writers is to practice. You will get lots of practice, and feedback, in my class.
