ROCK REVETMENTS

General Descriptions

 May be used to control erosion by armouring the dune face

 It will reduced the waves energy & prevent further recession of the backshore if:
 Well designed
 Doing maintenance works
 Usually placed along the shoreline.

Functions
 Widely used in areas with important backshore assets subject to severe and ongoing
erosion.
 Basically the function of rock revetments is to reduce the erosive power of the waves.
 Can be built from:
 Gabions
 Timber
 Concrete armour units
 It must continuously maintained because it may:
 Slump down if it always continues erode. Hence become less effective as a defence
structure.
