FBA Conclusion Paper

The behavior that I have observed is mistaken behavior due to lack of social
emotional skills and verbal resources for output. In my paper, I will refer to the child that I
observed with his initials for confidentiality purposes which will be ‘ME’.
When observing ME, I noticed his behavior worsened when he had the option to
choices and too many options. He responded better to teacher led activities and controlled
choices. I also observed ME trying to include himself to play alongside other children, but
didn’t go about inviting himself in the right ways.
After a parent teacher conference, we have come to the conclusion that these
behaviors are happening here at school and at home with ME siblings. The behaviors are
occurring daily. It has been observed that right before the behaviors take place, ME
clenches his jaw and/or grinds his teeth. We (teachers and parents) are working on
helping ME gain the social and emotional skills needed to effectivity communicate with his
teachers and peers.
We have agreed to keep environments calm, low and avoid over stimulating
experiences while we work through this together. I have made ME feeling cards so that he
can quickly and effectively express to me how he is feeling if he is unable to vocalize. We
have a visual daily schedule so that ME can see what is coming next and knows where we
are at in our day and what to expect. For the time being, we will work on theses milestones
with ME and teachers before introducing them to the rest of the class just to ensure
success.
