Log 3:
-I think my ideas have evolved a lot especially from my “letters to readers” assignment and
proposal rough draft. Many new questions and topics were brought up as well as a decision on my
writing topic.
-The genre is new for me to write about, but it is something I am interested in as I am pursuing a
career in the medical field. I think I may experience challenges in my writing style to expresses my
topic and its ideas, but I think I’ll be fine.
-My process for this paper will be coming up with a draft/frame of how I want to convey my ideas
and research, then I will put in the research I have found to support my ideas and edit it.
-I think a constraint I will be dealing with is not being able to get my primary research from
observation, but rather from articles, journals, and research.

Log 4:
 Reflect on your experience with secondary research thus far.
o What have you learned from your secondary sources so far?
 I learned from my secondary research that communication plays a bigger role in research
than I originally assumed in many different ways. Another thing I learned was
communication also ranges to large hospital communication systems.
o What have you learned from the process of engaging in secondary research?
 I learned that to find good secondary sources, I need to be able to confirm creditability and
find research, article, and etcetera that supports my work.
o What do you feel like is going well with your secondary research, and what's not going
well?
 I feel like I’m struggling to find articles that describe the research, I usually just find small
studies so I have to draw my own conclusions from all that research.

Log 5:

 Review your prior research logs and consider your progress. How have your ideas evolved
from the Research Proposal to the Annotated Bibliography?

2
My research has evolved by deciding on what I want to talk about specifically and targeting my
research to that. This has helped me organize my essay and create my annotated bibliography.

 What challenges with research have you encountered, and how did you overcome them? Is
there anything you're still struggling with?

Some challenges I’ve faced was finding sources that weren’t so short. Most research I have found
were concise reports of studies which were very helpful but not long enough to add to my
annotated bibliography.

 In what way was an annotated bibliography a new genre of writing for you? Did you have any
prior knowledge that you tried to apply in writing this first draft?

This annotated bibliography focuses almost solely on research and data, which I haven’t only
written about before. I had some prior knowledge from classes, but I haven’t actually written and
essay like this before.

 Explain your process for writing this paper. Where did you begin?

I started by finding my topic, making sure I had enough resources, then organizing my thought
process into an outline.

 What constraints are you working with (e.g., time, resources, requirements)?

The constraints I’m working with is very broken up sources I need to piece together to make a
point.

 How and why did you end your writing session? What did you accomplish? Did you meet your
writing goals? If so, how? If not, why not?

By meeting the criteria. I accomplished a lot of groundwork, but I haven’t met all my writing
goals because I’ve been so stressed with bulk loads of study material from other classes.

 Based on the results of this particular writing session, would you like to change anything
about your writing process for next time?

To better understand what’s being asked of me before I start working.

 What are you most proud of in your paper? Highlight some things you think you did
particularly well.

I think I have a good writing style and topic.

 What are you still concerned about with your draft? What challenges did you encounter in
writing this first draft?

3
I’m concerned I missed some criteria, or I could have better organized it with more time.

 Consider the course activities and process works you developed leading up to this major
assignment. What feedback did you get and how did you use it? What ideas made it into your
Annotated Bibliography and what did you decide to leave out, and why? How did you use
these low stakes assignments to develop your first draft?

What I missed in the criteria. The low stakes assignment helped me to figure out what exactly I
needed to have done.

 If you had more time to continue working on your draft, where would you focus your
attention?

I would better my introduction and make it flow neater.

Log 6:

Consider the following, and be as specific as possible in your response:

 What have you learned from your research?

I have learned that good communication, especially written in this day and age, is essential to
keep a hospital running and rescue incident reports among other things.

 What challenges did you encounter in conducting primary research? If none, what do you
think made it all go smoothly for you?

I encountered struggling to connect a lot of separate research pieces to get an idea using
statistical data.

 What have you learned from the process involved in collecting and analyzing primary data?

I learned that it is important to focus on snippets of information as not to get overwhelmed when
analyzing research.

 What concerns do you have about the Researched Write-Up? What more preparation do you
need to help you put together a first draft next week?

I am concerned with analyzing my data in a way that conveys what I am trying to say in a clear
manner

4
 What are you excited about or proud of with your research and/or writing so far?

I am excited with seeing everything come together

Log 7:

 Review your prior research logs and consider your progress. How have your ideas evolved
from the Research Proposal to the Annotated Bibliography to now with the final Academic
Article?

My ideas have evolved to incorporate my better understanding of the requirements of this

assignment as well as evolving to fit the writing format and style I think will best convey my
ideas.

 What challenges with research and writing have you encountered, and how did you
overcome them? Is there anything you're still struggling with?

My challenges have been organizing my points since the topic can become very broad and
detailed very easily.

 In what way was the Academic Article a new genre of writing for you (particularly considering
any prior research papers you might have written)? Did you have any prior knowledge that
you tried to apply in writing this first draft?

I have never written an academic article before, so it was a different style of writing because it
was more explaining an idea that supporting or defending one.

 Explain your process for writing this paper. Where did you begin?

I began my reviewing the academic articles from previous assignments to get an idea on format
and writing ideas. This helped me to try to create a slightly alternated writing style that would fit
my paper.

 What constraints are you working with (e.g., time, resources, requirements)?

My biggest constraint has been time. I have very little of it because of other intense classes so it
is hard for me to write long assignments while managing intense coursework.

 How and why did you end your writing session? What did you accomplish? Did you meet your
writing goals? If so, how? If not, why not?

5
I ended my writing session by getting a better idea of the organizational technique I want to use
and how to focus more on my methods and research.

 Based on the results of this particular writing session, would you like to change anything
about your writing process for next time?

I would like to go into more detail and make my paper longer if I had more time.

 What are you most proud of in your paper? Highlight some things you think you did
particularly well.

I am proud of how organized and straight forward it is. I think my alternated writing style was
new and I like the way it came out.

 What are you still concerned about with your draft? What challenges did you encounter in
writing this first draft?

I am still very concerned about adding more to the length. It challenges me to go into more detail
to make it longer.

 Consider the course activities and process works you developed leading up to this major
assignment. What feedback did you get and how did you use it? What ideas made it into your
Academic Article and what did you decide to leave out, and why? How did you use these low
stakes assignments to develop your first draft?

I used the feedback to help me develop my research section in particular.

 If you had more time to continue working on your draft, where would you focus your
attention?

Adding more to write about especially in my research section which was unfinished.
