The cultural theme I choose to explore through my archeological dig that will be displayed in my museum exit is

technology. The reason I chose technology is because of the huge impact it can have on a culture or really a race of
people in such a short amount of time. The advances in technology allowed us to get to the technology advanced and
driven place we are today. I wanted to focus on the advances and improvements they made in the beginning long ago.

Spear shaft terminal was discovered at the lower Zab river valley 1st dig site. it was dated back to
900 BCE. After discovering the spear shaft terminal it was determined that it was used as an aid
in helping warrior. The warriors would use it to help guide the shafts or their spears allowing
them to be more accurate. This technology advancement allowed them to have an improvement
in defense against predators, or rivals but also more accuracy in hunting.

The account of archers was dug up in the Lower Zab river valley at the 3rd dig site. The
account of archers was a cuneiform tablet that was written and used to record important
battle information. It dates back to 514 BCE. The tablet would tell of victories but was also
used to track the battle. This recording technology used allowed them to capture heroic
moments. It also allowed them the ability to evaluate what happened on the battlefield and
better prepare for the next.

The spindle whorl was found at the 1st dig site of the Diyala plains tell dates back to 2900-2600
BCE. The spindle whorl would attach to the end of a wrapped spindle and allow for faster easier
spinning. The use of this allowed for the making of thread that could later be used to make
clothing. The improvement in thread making allowing for garment making is important because
with clothes comes protection. They could be protected from the elements, but it would also give
the ability to show status in some cultures.

the relief of soldiers was dug up from the Diyala plains 2nd dig site. Trace to 668-627 BCE. The relief of
soldier served multiple uses. It could be used as art for one to have in their home. The piece depicting
soldier transporting captors was also used as a new way to record historical events. This would be an
impactful technological advancement because of the ability to record history, individual groups and
humans as a whole was a huge step forward. There are many tribes and cities whole groups of people
that existed that we don’t know much information about because there was no record. This allows
them to withstand the pass of time and tell the tales of their people.

the mace head picture to the left was a piece of military weaponry found in the upper Zab river valley at
the 1st dig site. The mace head was traced to 2700-2600 BCE. The mace head was used to swing at
opposing forces. The mace head had the ability to deliver a fatal blow. The piece of military weaponry is
an important piece of technological advance because it is an advance that could give who yields it and
their people a chance to live and thrive, they may not have had before.

the cylinder seal was discovered in the upper Zab river valley at the 3rd dig site. The cylinder
seal was from 2600-2350 BCE. The seal is one of the first technology advances that we can
see lead to uniformity and easier repetition. Meaning the seal allowed for consistent
production of an image that allowed for more time to create more seals or do other things
rather than trying to carve out the images and messages every time they were needed. They
could carve it once and produce from that.
