Generally, architectural design is the art behind the design of buildings and
structures. It describes the physical aspect of a building, the construction method and the
unifying aspects of a
structure. The main
purpose of
architectural design is
to bring different
components together
into a whole functional
building despite the
given limitations.
2. What is Design Approach?
The common problem right after every project brief for all students are: Where
should I begin? How could I explain it? And what are the basis for this design? There are
several approaches to design. Design Approach 1 deals with the Concepts wherein the
problem comes in. Design Approach 2 involves achieving the solution by comparing
ideas and solutions from the other designs, also known as ‘precedent studies’. Design
Approach 3 which is the Design Theory and Philosophies considered as a discipline in
borrowing others’ theories in our path towards the design solution. Lastly, Design
Approach 4 includes the combination of Design 2 and 3 (Issue and Design Theory). This
technique of approach involves adding the issue and architectural theory to achieve the
design (solution), furthermore applying the theory as a solution to resolve the issue or
problem at site.
3. What is Design Concept?
Design concept is the idea behind a design. It's how you plan on solving
the design problem in front of you. It's the underlying logic, thinking, and reasoning for
how you'll design a website. Your concept will lead to your choices in color and type.
A design concept is the big picture idea for the project. It shows the overall design
intent and provides direction for everyone on the project team from the early schematic
design phase all the way through construction.
It is a collection of thoughts that point to the designs which are liked either by
users, client or industry. It allows you rule out the possibilities of coming up with designs
which are not consistent with what is expected. You will be able to develop a visual
vocabulary or a sense of approach with a successful moodboard.
4. What is Design Metaphor?
On the other hand, the synthesis of design solutions is the stronger factor of the
use of metaphors, and conceptual thinking the weakest. Results also demonstrate that
metaphors play an important role in design creativity. Analysis of design problems was
the predictor that had a unique contribution to innovation and general creativity.
