1. What is Architecture Design?

Architectural design is a concept

that focuses on components or
elements of a structure. An architect
is generally the one in charge of the
architectural design. They work with
space and elements to create a
coherent and functional structure.

Architectural design is considered

one of the best ways or practices of
planning and designing different
buildings following a specific style. An
architect, in this case, implements
different styles or designs to match
the needs of a client. It is a
comprehensive process that involves
thorough planning, designing and
construction of a building.

Generally, architectural design is the art behind the design of buildings and
structures. It describes the physical aspect of a building, the construction method and the
unifying aspects of a
structure. The main
purpose of
architectural design is
to bring different
components together
into a whole functional
building despite the
given limitations.
2. What is Design Approach?

The common problem right after every project brief for all students are: Where
should I begin? How could I explain it? And what are the basis for this design? There are
several approaches to design. Design Approach 1 deals with the Concepts wherein the
problem comes in. Design Approach 2 involves achieving the solution by comparing
ideas and solutions from the other designs, also known as ‘precedent studies’. Design
Approach 3 which is the Design Theory and Philosophies considered as a discipline in
borrowing others’ theories in our path towards the design solution. Lastly, Design
Approach 4 includes the combination of Design 2 and 3 (Issue and Design Theory). This
technique of approach involves adding the issue and architectural theory to achieve the
design (solution), furthermore applying the theory as a solution to resolve the issue or
problem at site.
3. What is Design Concept?

Design concept is the idea behind a design. It's how you plan on solving
the design problem in front of you. It's the underlying logic, thinking, and reasoning for
how you'll design a website. Your concept will lead to your choices in color and type.

A design concept is the big picture idea for the project. It shows the overall design
intent and provides direction for everyone on the project team from the early schematic
design phase all the way through construction.

It is a collection of thoughts that point to the designs which are liked either by
users, client or industry. It allows you rule out the possibilities of coming up with designs
which are not consistent with what is expected. You will be able to develop a visual
vocabulary or a sense of approach with a successful moodboard.
4. What is Design Metaphor?

Metaphors help designers to understand unfamiliar design problems by

juxtaposing them with known situations. Retrieving concepts from metaphors demands
creative thinking. While the importance of this heuristic has been acknowledged in design,
more research is needed to appreciate its contribution to design practice. This
investigation aims to assess metaphor use by students in design problem solving, with a
particular focus on design creativity. Findings show that innovation is the most significant
factor characterizing design creativity, followed by utility and aesthetics.

On the other hand, the synthesis of design solutions is the stronger factor of the
use of metaphors, and conceptual thinking the weakest. Results also demonstrate that
metaphors play an important role in design creativity. Analysis of design problems was
the predictor that had a unique contribution to innovation and general creativity.

Instead of re-using known design schemas and familiar solutions, the

implementation of metaphors in design practice can contribute to creative thinking and
thereby to more innovative products.
