MAKAL is an ethical jewellery brand blending the use of natural gold nuggets with
contemporary Italian design to transform Nature’s rarities into remarkable
jewellery. Every MAKAL piece is unique: no gold nugget is the same as another.

Our jewellery is fully traceable and responsibly sourced, from the mine to our
artisan studios in Italy. For MAKAL, integrity is everything: in our designs and
craftmanship, the treatment of our people, and in the sourcing of our materials. We
believe beautiful jewellery can be created hand in hand with caring for people,
communities and the environment.

COLLECTION
We call our first collection The Circle. It is inspired by the Mayan cycle of life:
Nothing is ever ‘born’ and nothing ever ‘dies.’ The cycle continues forever,
infinite and uninterrupted. The collection comprises three jewellery lines
embodying the natural journey of the gold nugget: offered by the Earth, embraced by
the Heart, reflected in the Cosmos.

OUR STORY
Daniela Colaiacovo founded MAKAL in 2018 after two decades pioneering the first
ethical gold mine of its type in the world. She led the way with zero-waste
extraction, chemical-free processing and a business model that included local
artisanal miners as partners. Mining as a positive force for community development
is in the DNA of the MAKAL brand.
