Text to Web Remediation

Within the project text assignment I decided to go with the crisis of global warming, but

more specifically deforestation and its contribution to global warming. I chose this topic as I feel

it is very important to prevent rising temperatures of the planet, but also to keep animals habitats

safe. The way I composed my essay was to explain the effects of deforestation and what that is

doing to our planet and the life on it. As for my research I gathered the most relevant date from

the most reliable sources available, one of them being from a NASA fact sheet which contained

information on what happens when trees are cut and the kind of emissions that are released from

trees. Also experts in the field of geology who could aid with research in proving why

deforestation should be stopped.

Transitioning to a web remediation on my first website I had to bring over the most

important information from my essay, but keeping in mind that anyone would look at my site.

Knowing this I had to show information is a basic way so anyone could understand what was

being said without using scientific terms, yet still being able to get a point across. This is one

thing I found challenging as how would I bring most vital information, yet keeping

understandable to everyone. Going from text to web demands that you add more images because

not many people on the web want to read and images are more engaging as people can make

assumptions and analyze photos easier than reading paragraphs or writing. One thing I have

noticed over the years about web articles is that there tends to be an exaggeration or emphasis on

a topic to show how dangerous or frightening it is which I can apply to my website as global

warming is not a joke and could harm all life on earth.

Assuming that anyone would look at my site, they would probably need to know how to

navigate through my website. With this in mind I tried to keep a simple layout with just text and

images to keep my site looking organized and clean. The navigation through my site was kept

straight forward with the menu at the very top which you could click and be taken to topics that I

am discussing. My topics were; overview, cause, impact, take action, and references. The topics

occur in a style of chronological order which show what is was, how it happened, and what we

can do, to help the reader engaged in the topic. As far as illustrations I only had a few which

correlated to each topic I brought up in my essay to give the reader a visualization of what the

topics looks like.

Onto my second remediation, I was paired up with another classmate who came from a

Mexican background. While we were partnered we gave each other ideas on how we would

improve our websites to make them better, but also to appeal to the audience of our background.

One of the main challenges that I thought of when I learned her background was how to have a

spanish speaking audience understand what I am talking about? The changes I made to my new

website were a change in color and the layout. I changed the color to match my topic about

deforestation so I put a green background with an image of a forest being cut on the home page. I

also added more images as they are more captivating to keep a reader intrigued about my topic.

The main difference from my first site was the language. Fortunately, I understand how to read

and write spanish so her audience would understand what I am talking about. Another change I

made by adding clickable links which would take you to websites and videos to be more

informed on what you can do about deforestation. One thing I learned from being part of a

Mexican family was that we pay more attention to images as I have seen from my family and

spanish articles where spanish writing tends to be more focused on images. Unlike my first site, I

chose more images and also more informative images since they are the more eye catching to

this audience.
