CONFERENCE AND ENSEMBLE ON ANTHOLOGY OF LOVE ; QASIDAT AL -BURDA IN ISLAMICATE LIFESCAPES 26 SUNDAY, JANUARY 2020 Cultural centre Markaz knowledge city +91 9562 101 333 www.shariacity.com Sponsered by : TALENMARK FS mapvar j= figttioe REWAG Concept note and sub themes yy Qasida al-Burda is an Arabic anthology praising Prophet Muhammad (5), composed in the thirteenth century by the eminent Egyptian Sufi mystic Imam Al Busuri, who lived during the vibrant and, often, violent period of Mamlik kingdom. The anthology comprises 260 lines and ten chapters. Throughout the Muslim world, from Busuri's time to the present, the poem has been recited individually and in groups, as it is the only globally celebrated poetic praising of the prophet Muhammad (s). Most of them recite it in orderto cure diseases, gain spiritual consolation, and gain the Prophet's intercession on the day of judgment. Its rhythmic and literal perfectness made it popular and gained a deep recognition in both Arab and non-Arab worlds. The poem has been translated to many global and local languages and hundreds of commentaries have also been published. Its verses are often scripted on public and private walls, buildings, monuments and Graves as decorations. The Ottoman period is well known for its calligraphic art of Qasidaal-Burda. Numerous scholars have commented on its literal aspects like the choice of words, the propriety of expression, perspicuity and the charming elegance in language, figures of speech -- both verbal and rhetorical. Some others have also engaged with religious or spiritual platforms such as prophetic love, self-purification, and Sufi commentaries. However only a few have dealt with the study of societies whose orality, scriptural tradition, memorization and lifestyle have engaged and influenced by Qasida al-Burda. The contexts and practices vary with the localization of differences in societies. The conference intends to develop critical and cross readings between the text and its readers through an interdisciplinary approach, including the traditional textual orientation along with ethnographic contents of Muslim Ummah. We expect to open, from this conference, new insights and discussions on all social facts, histories, traditions and writings formed out of the inspiration or influence of this mystical panegyric poem. aK SUSE: x MRE Ne 3s Sub Themes .
