At today’s Azusa Unified professional development Day 5, high school math teachers 
learned about the 3 drivers: collaborative practices, cognitive rigor, and academic 
discourse. 
 
As teachers, how are we modeling the use of academic language in the classrooms? 
What strategies are used to help students use academic language? 
 
At the end of the day, the math teachers recorded what an academic language should 
sound like using sentence starters. Teachers were asked to try modeling & recording 
with their students before the next AUSD PD Day 6 in December.
