Oil and gas entrap in a reservoir has been generated from kerogen within a source rock during migration only a certain amount generated from kerogen and can be released.
A major part is always retained in the source rock, based on this
concept the following three objects can be studied under correlation:
i. Insoluble kerogen of a source rock
ii. Bitumen extracted from source rock iii. Pooled hydrocarbons
In principle it is desirable to correlate different oils with each other,
oils with their source rock, gases with gases and if possible gasses with oils and source rock (Fig.)
