Oil and Source Rock Correlation

 Oil and gas entrap in a reservoir has been generated from kerogen
within a source rock during migration only a certain amount
generated from kerogen and can be released.

 A major part is always retained in the source rock, based on this


concept the following three objects can be studied under
correlation:

i. Insoluble kerogen of a source rock


ii. Bitumen extracted from source rock
iii. Pooled hydrocarbons

 In principle it is desirable to correlate different oils with each other,


oils with their source rock, gases with gases and if possible gasses
with oils and source rock (Fig.)
