Misna Misi, 61115064, 2018. The relationship of Body Mass Index with
Increased Blood Glucose Levels in Geriatrics in Sambau Health Center, Batam
City, 2018. Script. Faculty of Medicine, Batam University.

Background: Unhealthy lifestyle changes and uncontrolled food concomitant with

physical activity have an effect on the body, namely being overweight which in
turn will increase the risk of metabolic syndrome such as increased blood
pressure, cholesterol and increased blood glucose levels. The purpose of this
study was to determine the Body Mass Index by Increasing Blood glucose Levels
in Geriatrics at Sambau Health Center Batam City in 2018.

Method: The method of this study was an observational analytic with cross
sectional approach conducted at Sambau Health Center, Batam City in December
2018. The sampling technique was Quota Sampling with a total sample of 40
elderly. The results of the study were analyzed by Spearman Rank.

Results: More than half of the 22 respondents (55%) had excessive BMI including
overweight, at risk, level I obesity, level II obesity, and almost half 18 respondents
(45%) had a normal BMI. More than half of 21 respondents (52.5%) had
uncertain KGDS DM, and almost half 19 respondents (47.5%) had normal KGDS.
The Spearman Rank test results obtained p=0,000 (p <0.05) with a koefisien
correlation (r) of 0.918 which means that the interpretation of the value (r) is very
strong, and the relationship between the two variables is in the same direction.

Conclusion: The results of this study indicate a relationship between the Body
Mass Index with Increased Blood glucose Levels in Geriatrics at the Sambau
