Topic: Demographic Information

Context
What: • Spanish I
• 8th grade and 9th grade students
Who: • 28 students
• 18 9th graders
• 10 8th graders
Where: • Public high school
• SE Michigan
• Meets daily – 50 minutes
Why: Students have been learning the placement and location of the capital of each of
the Spanish Speaking countries of the world. Students will now discover the
demographics associated with each of the countries they can identify.

Procedure – This assignment would start on a Wednesday and the students would have Thursday and
Friday in class to finish and then the final assignment would be due Monday at the beginning of class.

Task: You and your partners will be providing a comprehensive overview of a country and the
demographics associated with it. After researching specific topics in the library and computer
lab your group will be designing and creating a spreadsheet with graphs to demonstrate your
country’s characteristics.

Process: Work through the following steps to complete your project on time.

1. Use the list provided to select and agree upon a country to research (once a country is
selected it is no longer available to other groups). If you would like a country not on the
list you will need to get teacher approval.
2. Research the demographic questions listed below. You must state your sources for
where you find the data. If you have trouble finding the information, let your teacher
know.
3. After you have answered all of the questions, pick three (3) data points and enter them
into a spreadsheet. You can use either Excel or Google Sheets, but all work must be
shared with the teacher at the end of each class period. You will create a graph for each
data point.
4. After you make your graphs and share them with the teacher, you will share your
findings with the class by presenting the graphs your created.

All work for this project must be shared equally there will be a peer review after the project is
submitted where you have to state how you contributed to the group and you will grade the
members of your group based on how much they contributed.
