I feel as if I can relate to the children at Kids First because when I was growing up my family did

not have a lot of money and we grew up in a low-income housing area with lots of crime. My

parents were both working multiple jobs, so my brother and I spent a lot of time at home alone,

with no one to help us with our homework if we needed it. Also, having families that are

working frequently causes it to seem like they do not care about your school life, which can

make it hard for students to care about their own school life. I feel like I have a connection with

the kids because I understand what it is like to have a lack of supervision in younger years which

can lead to a lack of caring about school and increased behavioral outbursts. Also, like some of

the students at Kids First I have been around some intense crime at a very young age that can

cause some problems with feeling safe in certain areas. I feel like having a similar home life

background as the students helps me relate to them more and to have a better understanding of

what it is like for them at home and at school.
