Organisational Pattern: Monroe’s Motivated Sequence
Visual Aid : Power point slides
General Purpose : To persuade
Specific Purpose : To persuade my audience to battle sexual harassments among women by
implying new modern solutions.
Central Idea : Sexual harassment among women is a crucial issue, and one of the ways to
abolish this is by establishing a Red Light District.

Introduction

(Monroe’s Motivated Sequence Attention)

I. God created Eve from Adam’s left rib, to be protected and taken care of, as equals. Same
goes to all of us.
A. Families protect each other, friends encourage each other. We live in perfect harmony of taking
care of each other’s backs.
B. For every woman, there will be one or more men to protect them, be it as a father, a husband, a
friend, and even as strangers.
II. But what if women aren’t protected, and instead are being used and abused by the men
they trust the most?
III. What if sexual harassment cases in our country increases to a point of no return?
A. According to a news article published by New Straits Time (NST), one-third of
Malaysian women have faced sexual harassment.
IV. As my researches goes on, it made me realize that women aren’t safe from being sexually
harassed.
V. Today, I would like to persuade you to battle sexual harassments among women.
VI. In lieu of rising in sexual harassment among women, we must establish Red Light District.

(Transition: Let’s dive into the real problem.)

Body

(Monroe’s Motivated Sequence Need)

I. Sexual harassment is not an unusual case to be heard, and that speaks volume of how big
and important it is to fight this.
A. We all know how dangerous and exposed it is for us out there.

1. The potential of getting sexually harassed out there is higher than the chance
of getting mugged.
a. It can come in many forms, be it in verbal, mental, and physical
harassment. And it usually happens in public areas such as trains
and buses and closed spaces.
b. Based on my own personal experience, and amongst my women
friends, over a half of them has been harassed in public, in verbal
and physical means.
B. Clothing is not the cause of this to happen, but the ill-mannered mindsets of people.
1. Even though a woman dresses properly and covered, she still gets harassed.
a. This statement is backed up by the fact that harassers does not
choose their prey by appearance, but solely on their sick intentions
b. Many cases were reported by women from various races and
religions.

C. A lot of sexual harassments cases happened within the family.

1. Cases reports told that many women suffer from sexual harassments from
their family members.
a. These women get harassed, and in some cases raped by their
father or brother or relatives. Psychologists and social workers report
that severe or chronic sexual harassment can have the same
psychological effects as rape or sexual assault. (Koss, Mary P.
"Changed Lives: The Psychological Impact of Sexual Harassment."
in Ivory Power: Sexual Harassment On Campus. Albany, NY, State
University of New York Press, 1987. pp. 73-92
ISBN 978-0-7914-0457-7)
b. Most of the victims didn’t report about this to anyone as they were
scared that they might bring shame towards the family and/or will be
threatened by the perpetrator.
2. Sometimes, it comes to happen as ‘a habit of old’, which is clearly wrong.
a. Older people are sometimes ignorant, if not uneducated. They did it
towards the women in the family because they think it’s okay to
touch their family in any way they please.
b. The perpetrator may be completely unaware that his or her behavior
is offensive or constitutes sexual harassment. The perpetrator may
be completely unaware that his or her actions could be unlawful.(

(Transition: So what’s the solution?)

( Monroe’s Motivated Sequence Satisfaction)

II. We can solve this by establishing a ‘Red Light District’ for people like this to fulfill their
desires.
A. It should be an establishment that allows men to come and hire a ‘pleaser’ to appease
their sexual needs.
1. Sexual drive for men is like an appetite, once your appetite is satisfied, they’d
go back to their normal lives.
B. It should be available around the areas where most reported cases of sexual
harassments are located.
a. By doing this, it will decrease the amounts of sexual predators in the
streets.

(Transition: The public and private spaces will be safer from being a jungle where the predator prey
on the innocent victims.)

( Monroe’s Motivated Sequence Visualisation)

III. The establishment of the ‘Red Light District’ has its pros and cons.
A. On the down side, there is a possibility that it might make the perpetrators have an
INCREASED level of desires.
1. As they know that they could get what they’ve always wanted, they would go
and chase for something that they couldn’t get easily
a. An excess of desire is, of course, called greed. Because greed is
insatiable, it prevents us from enjoying all that we already have,
which, though it may seem like little, is far more than our forebears
could ever have dreamt of. Another problem of greed is that it is
all-consuming.

B. On the upper hand, there will be lesser cases of sexual harassments in public and
private areas.
1. As those men visits the district, it will make them have lesser desires on any
woman that they see in public.
a. The district will satisfy their needs, and they will no longer have the
urges, and therefore minimizes the amounts of harassers.

C. Women could feel safer and will feel that they will be able to protect themselves.
1. Biologically, women are physically weaker than men. And when there are
lesser men that can overpower them, they will feel stronger anywhere.
a. The higher the confidence lever that women whose around
everyone, the lesser the tendency for a sexual harasser to harass
them.
2. In conjunction, women could ask for help easier, if they are harassed.
a. After the herd of sexual harassers are thinned down, the civilized
men’s herd will flourish. And they will be ready at all times to help a
woman in danger.
b. And this will also increase the public awareness on how to identify
and report on sexual harassment.

Conclusion

(Monroe’s Motivated Sequence Action)

I. In conclusion, sexual harassment among women is a crucial issue, and one of the ways to abolish
this is by establishing a ‘Red Light District’.
II. Establishing this method will decrease the amount of indecent sexual gestures that are being done
to women.
III. For all women out there, stay safe and vigilant. And for all men out there, stop harassing women.
Destroy the flower garden, and the bees will rage.
