Version No. 1
Course Pre-requisites/ Co- Engineering Mechanics Statics and Dynamics
requisites/ anti-requisites (if
any). Otherwise, please
indicate as ‘None’
Objectives: The objectives of this course is to familiarize students with basic
types of mechanisms, joints and degrees of freedom to perform
position, velocity and acceleration analysis using graphical and
analytical methods and to provide students an understanding of
different types of mechanisms.
Expected Outcome: The student should be able to:

1. Deal with kinematics of simple mechanisms and motion

generation
2. Apply basic principles of statics and dynamics for
designing of machine elements.
3. Analyze machine elements like linkages, cams and gears.
4. Analyze compound and epicyclic gear trains.
5. Formulate and solve a mechanism design problem
6. Learn systematic approach to problem solving.
