To help students comprehend all aspects of a political party, and the campaign needed to
elect a presidential candidate.
Myself
Overview
Teacher will divide class into groups of 4 to 5 students per group. Each group will develop
their own political party using the included criteria, and choose a presidential candidate to
represent their party. Students will then receive the included 2-sided handout entitled “Get
the Party Started!” Explain this handout including all aspects of the political parties and
presidential campaign project. Allow a few class periods, or portions of class periods, to
create, form, and practice presenting their party until election day.
On election day, candidates and their political parties will present their campaigns to other
classes, staff, and/or your own classroom. If desired, have all those that heard the
campaigns vote for the best candidate/party. If desired, the candidate from the party with
the most votes can become the classroom president. In my classroom, I use this elected
president to sign and veto bills that come through our class during our Legislative Branch
Simulation (How A Bill Becomes A Law) unit.

Grading
If desired, you may use the included grading sheet. Students will grade themselves and the
members of their group based upon their effort, participation and teamwork. You the
