Music Education: Professional Choice

In this chapter of Robert Duke’s Intelligent Music Teaching entitled “Feedback”, the

concept of reflecting on the work you have done is discussed. He discusses that it’s important for

teachers to not only receive feedback from their colleagues but from their students as well. It’s

also extremely important that teachers take the feedback into strong consideration. By attempting

to incorporate feedback into their everyday teaching, teachers are able to teach better to the

culture of their students and their classroom. Duke discusses four important aspects of feedback

in this chapter: feedback can come from almost anywhere, the function of feedback is

independent to it’s intent, a given feedback even may function differently for different learners

and in different circumstances, and the associations between feedback and behavior need not be

explicitly recognized in order to exert an effect on behavior.”
