6 Month Plan

Within the next 6 months, I want to have taken my NCLEX examination and passed it. I

would also like to, at a minimum, be starting the hiring process at an area hospital. I preferably

would like to work at the Jackson Memorial ER.

To achieve my 6 months goals, I will start by participating in the 12-week focused review

with ATI. I will also obtain letters of recommendation from my professors and my current

employers. To be more marketable to hospitals, I plan to take an intensive EKG course, and

ACLS, and a PALS class. I will apply to as many jobs as possible within the first few weeks

after passing the NCLEX.

3 Year Plan

Within the next 3 years, I would like to have obtained my BSN, as well as be an

established employee at an area hospital. I want to gain as much knowledge as possible in the

first 3 years as a nurse.

To obtain my BSN, I will be completing pre-requisites for the program during the Spring

and Summer 2020 semesters. Afterward, I plan to apply to the RN to BSN program at Miami

Dade College and FIU online program. I would like to complete the program within the next 2-3

years. To expand my knowledge, I want to obtain certifications in my areas of interest such as

emergency medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, and diabetes.

10 Year Plan

In 10 years, I would like to have obtained my master's or even a doctorate. I’m not sure

yet if I’d like to become a Nurse Practitioner, however, if I do want to become an NP, I would

like to achieve that goal within the next 10 years while the profession is still growing and in-

demand throughout the country.

Organizations

Currently, I belong to the Student Nurse chapter of the American Nurses Association.

I do not presently belong to any organization related to my future nursing career.

Emergency Medicine

The emergency medicine nurse must apply the nursing process to patients of all ages in

all levels of acuity who require stabilization or resuscitation. The emergency medicine nurse

must follow the same standards mandated by the American Nurses Association and must practice

within the same scope of practice dictated by their state.

The certification for an Emergency Medicine Nurse is called the Certified Emergency

Nurse certification. The test encompasses general nursing knowledge as well as knowledge an

Emergency Nurse should have, such as wound care, shock, resuscitation, etc. To be able to test a

nurse must have a current and unrestricted license. It is recommended that a nurse obtain 2 years

of emergency medicine experience before beginning the process of certification. Once the nurse

is certified, she must renew the certification every 4 years.

Other certifications and Emergency Medicine Nurse can obtain are: Certified Flight

Registered Nurse, Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse and Certified Transport Registered

Nurse.

To achieve certification, I plan to start working in the ER as soon as possible after

passing the NCLEX, so I can accumulate the 2 years of experience before applying to become

certified.

Current Certifications

At the moment I hold the BLS certification. I plan to obtain the ACLS and PALS

certifications within the next 3-5 months.

I plan to obtain the ACLS and PALS certifications within the next 3-5 months. I would

also like to take an EKG course within the next 6 months.

I have not participated in any professional activities to date.
