Parent Meeting - September

From the feedback that I heard at the math parent meetings, parents requested
information on how to use technology. Therefore, this year, I wanted to take on the
challenge and teach the parents about technology. The first meeting at both high
schools, we went over the following:
● Creating gmail account (username/password)
● Learn how to use the Google drive
● Find the Google calendar
● Create Aeries
● Look at student’s grade/missing assignments on Aeries
● Look at absences on Aeries

The community liaisons at both school sites and I talked about other things that we can
go over if parents knew how to use the above. However, when we presented we found
that parents at each site knew different information. For example, the parents at AHS
did not know they had a gmail account. We took time to look up their username and
password. Then we went over to the “waffle” and showed them the calendar and drive.
The parents wanted to practice using the drive, so we made folders and uploaded to the
drive. Afterwards, we went over Aeries and several parents shared with the other
parents the student information that could be found on Aeries.

At GHS, many of the parents knew they had a gmail account, so they were able to
quickly retrieve it. They were familiar with the drive and calendar. However, many of the
parents were not familiar with how to navigate Aeries so we spent some time on Aeries.
Also, Linda McNary, Director of Adult Education, was invited to speak about the
programs that were offered at the Azusa Adult Ed. Many parents were not aware there
were free programs that they could take, even beginner computer classes. Several
parents were excited that they could take classes for free and still earn a high school
diploma!
