E-Learning Task 1 & 2 Mr. Yazid
E-Learning Task 1 & 2 Mr. Yazid
Brainstorming
Read the following sentences. Translate them into good English.
Practice: Read the text below. Based on the information in the text, make questions as
many as possible.
My name is Erick Tesla and I live in Germany. I study renewable energy engineering at Munich
Institute. I have two elder brothers and one younger sister. My sister and brothers live in
Berlin with my parents. My parents own a manufacture at electric vehicle which sells chases,
power outlet and lithium battery from renewable energy sources. They work from 6.a.m to 6
pm. My first brother works as a supervisor in an automobile company while the second one
works for General motor as IT specialist. My sister goes to high school and is in the eleventh
grade.
Write down your questions below:
1. Who live in Germany from the text?
2. Where Erick study renewable energy engineering?
3. Is Erick have brother?
4. Who Erick’s first brother?
5. What abilities do Erick’ second brother?
6. Is Erick’s younger sister eleventh grade at high school?
7. How many hours Erick’s parent work?
WH-QUESTIONS: is used to ask certain types of questions on order to find out
information.
Examples Answer:
How How does the machine work? It doesn’t work well. We need
*Manner to lubricate it.
What kind Category: boots, shoes, What kinds of music do you play?
of sport, movie, books, What kinds of shoes did you buy?
fruits, etc. What kind of fruit do you like best?
1. What is the difference between conduction, convection, and radiation? Give an example.
Conduction is movement of heat from one SOLID to another, from warmer to colder. A pan
warming on a stove is an example.
Convection is transfer of heat from one place to another in LIQUIDS or GASES, from warmer areas
to colder areas Examples include boiling water and when warm water mixes with cold water.
Radiation is Heat transfer from fire or the sun in the form of wave energy being emitted from the
source (either fire or the sun) for example like light waves, microwaves, radio waves, x-rays, etc.
5. List all of the energy sources and list ones are renewable and which are nonrenewable.
Renewable energy Renewable energy sources come from nature and can
be replenished (made again) in one hundred years or
less.
Solar Solar energy converts the sun’s light into electricity with
the use of solar panels and the photovoltaic effect.
Wind Wind energy is mainly used to either generate electricity
through wind turbines, or to pump water with a windmill.
Biomass Biomass is organic material that can be burned to
create heat or converted to be burned as fuels
(example: trees).
Hydroelectric power Hydroelectric power is produced from moving water
from either a flowing river or from water in reservoirs.
The water flows through a turbine to spin a generator,
which
produces electricity through the electromagnetic effect.
Geothermal Heat within the earth that can be used as steam or
hot water to heat items or to spin a generator.
Nonrenewable energy Nonrenewable energy sources come out of the ground
as liquids, gases and solids. These sources cannot be
replenished and are usually used up completely.
Coal Coal is a combustible black or brownish-black
sedimentary rock with a high amount of carbon and
hydrocarbons.
Oil Liquid form made from prehistoric plants and animals
and are found in in tiny spaces within sedimentary
rocks.
Natural gas Natural gas occurs deep beneath the earth's surface and
is in gas form.
Nuclear Nuclear energy can be released when those bonds are
broken in a process called nuclear fission. This energy can
be used to produce electricity by heating water and
spinning a turbine which produces a current.
6. Explain two differences between renewable and nonrenewable energy.
Renewable energy can be replenished (made again) in one hundred years or less and zero
emission
replenished and are usually used up completely then contributes to global warming (the
consequences; spread of disease, warmer waters, more hurricanes, etc.)
7. Explain how the electromagnetic effect produces electricity from a turbine generator.
Turbine generator is a device with blades, which is turned by a force e.g. that of wind,
water, or high pressure steam. The mechanical energy of the spinning turbine is converted
into electricity by a generator through the electromagnetic effect. What Electromagnetic
effect? Electromagnetic effect is The effect that occurs in copper wire when wrapped in
spinning magnets, which produces an electric current by loosening the electrons to flow in
the wire
So, coal can be burning and the heat can be boil water then the steam of water spinning
turbine to produce electricity from generator
10. How can water be used to create electricity?
Water can be use for hydroelectric power. Hydroelectric power is produced from moving
water from either a flowing river or from water in reservoirs. The water flows through a
turbine to spin a generator, which produces electricity through the electromagnetic effect.
11. Explain two advantages and two environmental problems from using fossil fuels.
The efficiency per investment of fossil fuels is far greater than other sources of energy for
now and able to produce large amounts of electricity in one location
For problem; nonrenewable energy mean many places are uninhabitable because of
former mines and power plants and contributes to global warming

12. How are uranium and coal similar? How are they different? Provide at least two ideas
for each question.
Uses water and steam to produce electricity and as a nonrenewable energy that is mined
The origin of the two raw materials of each plant fossil and chemical substance and the
hazard level of the power plant
