With Federalism, the regions turned federal states will be able to develop their political, social,

and economic potentials. It also teaches the local government states to be self-reliant and take
initiatives towards improvement. The local programs initiated will also be approved faster. With
this, the growth and development will be shared among the states unlike today wherein
progress usually resides on the National Capital Region. The population in NCR can also be
decongested. With the modernization of the other states, people can opt to return to their homes
for more job and business opportunities. The significant disadvantage of shifting to this type of
government is that it is costly. If implemented, more taxes will be imposed in order to support
the central and regional governments. Also, Federalism somehow will encourage more political
dynasties. Corruption in the local government might also worsen.

Federalism as our country’s form of government is something to ponder. However, the costs of
shifting to this type of constitution should also be considered, especially that we are still paying
off our debts. The Philippines might not be ready yet
