1. Identify two (2) secondary schools in Zamboanga City that implement Special Science
Curriculum, Describes the selection process for aspiring students and best practices of these
schools in terms of its implementation. (Include photograph of each).
 The Regional Science High School for Region IX (formerly Zamboanga City
NHS Main-RSHS) is a public secondary science school supervised by the
Philippine Department of Education, and it is part of the Regional Science High
School Union. The school offers scholarships to Filipino students who are gifted
in the sciences and mathematics. Admission to the school is by competitive
examination only, and only Filipino citizens are eligible to attend. Graduates of
the school are bound by law to major in the pure and applied sciences,
mathematics, or engineering upon entering college.
Students who belong to upper 10% of the Grade 6 graduating class, recommended by their
respective principals are qualified to take the entrance exam.
To acquire an entrance examination form, examinees should have:

 A final grade of 85% in English, Science and Mathematics


 A final grade of 83% in all other learning areas, and
 A weighted average of at least 85%.
Students should maintain a grade of 85 for major subjects and 83 in minor subjects. If a student
fails to meet this requirement, he or she would be put under probation for the following year. If
the student still fails to meet the requirements he or she will be due to disqualification, hence, he
or she is to transfer to another school by the end of the school year.

 The Zamboanga National High School West or simply called "West" is a
school on R.T Lim Boulevard, Zamboanga City. It was established on June 30,
1986.
Science and Technology and Engineering Mathematics (STEM) is the special
program given by the Department of Education to the school which is under by the
Science Department.

2. Are there private schools with outstanding science education programs? Identify five (2)

 The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (Filipino: Pamantasang Ateneo de
Zamboanga; also referred to as AdZU) is a Catholic and Jesuit university in Western
Mindanao. AdZU began in 1912 as Escuela Catolica, a parochial school run
by Spanish Jesuits.[5] It is the second oldest Jesuit school in the Philippines and the
second Jesuit school to be named Ateneo. It initially offered primary and secondary
education for boys. It became a college in 1952 and a university in August 2001. It
operates on two campuses, La Purisima Street with the tertiary and senior high
school divisions and Barangay Tumaga, outside Zamboanga City proper, with the
junior high school and grade school units.

 Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ) is a nonsectarian private
university in Zamboanga City, Philippines, founded on October 12, 1948
by Arturo Eustaquio, Sr. It was formerly known as Zamboanga A.E.
Colleges until it was changed to Universidad de Zamboanga on the 11th
day of April, 2005, the year it was granted university status.
UZ holds approximately 20% of all college enrollments in region-
IX Western Mindanao
