The kid across the river

My wife insists that he said they were all right, and I admit that sounds more
rational. But I happen to be quite positive. I was too flabbergasted to make any
comment. He began to move away. I said he’d better stay a while. The kids were
sure to bring back some ice cream.

“I have got to go now,” he said. “They wouldn’t like me to be here. Goo’ bye.”
Hegazed very earnestly at us for a moment. I was going to protest, but he ran
silently down the steps and flitted across the dry stones
