The Northside Reveille Volume 1, Issue 4 November 2019 Future Business Leaders of America Learn More than Business Structure By Taylor Ward Although Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is consid- cred a club, it provides more than a regular club structure, it builds today's students to be tomorrow's. Business Leaders of the Community they live in, FBLA meets the first Wednesday ‘of every month and the costs to be a member are $20. Mrs. Killingsworth provides snacks while the meeting is held in room $14, FBLA has absolute- ly, “no discriminations, and any type of student is able to become a part of this club,” states President, Laila Gray ‘and hence is also open for students t0 join throughout the year. Kill. ingsworth states the mission statement of FBLA “inspires and prepares stu- dents to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.” The goals for the students in the club are as follows: ‘© Develop competent, aggres- sive business leadership, + Strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work, © Create more interest in and understanding of American busi ness enterprise * Encourage members in the development of individual pro- jects that contribute to the im provement of home, business, and community. © Develop character, prepare for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism, © Encourage and practice effi- cient money management. © Encourage scholarship and promote school loyalty Assist students in the estab- lishment of occupational goals. * Facilitate the transition from school to work. ‘These students have confer- fences, in which they discuss their top- ies for competition, Some popular topics are Hospitality, web design, broadcast, and health administration. ‘The Fall Rally, Athens and a State Conference in Atlanta are all of the conferences students may advance to, Students decide whether they want to compete as individuals, a team, or as a chapter. Individual and team events focus on skills useful in leadership and career development; chapter events recognize overall achievement and performance in chapter management ‘and growth, During the competition judges recognize and reward excel- Tence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. If a student ad- vances to State within their topic, those students compete in events test- ing their knowledge-and skills. The top State Winners are eligible to com- pete for National Awards at the Na- tional Leadership Conference each summer, Each event is governed by specific guidelines and rating sheets, Once an event has been chosen, a close review of the guidelines is man- datory. Gray discusses FBLA and what it means to her, She states the club as “rewarding” because the club “prepares students for success early in life.” She claims that presidents have to “create strong and leadership val- ues," and “guide students to success within their topics.” She says a presi- dent must be, “Outgoing, a leader, and ambitious.” Gray also” spoke about What other events FBLA does, such as ‘community services, such as the Can- cer Kid Gift Give-Away and the good- ie bags for kids on Halloween. Some ‘others Include Ronald MeDonald House, Valley Interfaith Promise Bed Race, March of Dimes, and Relay for Life (American Cancer Society). On February 3rd - 9th students will partic- ipate in a FBLA Week. Within this week students are encouraged to pub- licize their activities, boost their mem- bership, and gear up for spring events.
