New York, NY 10027 212-678-3000 | waw.te,columbia.edu INFORMED CONSENT Protocol Title: Music Teaching Practices for Students with Low Vision, Including Blindness Interview Consent Principal Researcher: Pablo Domingo Rodriguez Aedo, Teachers College, pdr2113@tc.culumbiaedu INTRODUCTION You are invited to participate in this research study called “Music Teaching Practices for Students with Low Vision, Including Blindness.” You may qualify to take part in this research study because you are over 18 years old, have taught for a minimum of two years and have graduate training in teaching music for people with low vision and/or blindness. Approximately eight people will participate in this study and it will take 2 hours of your time to complete over the course of two weeks. All the funding for this study has been provided by its principal researcher, Pablo Domingo Rodriguez Aedo, Doctor in Music and Music Education candidate from Teachers College, Columbia University. WHY IS THIS STUDY BEING DONE? This study is being done to collect and analyze several music strategies to teach special learners. EE TO TAKE PART IN THIS S" Ifyou decide to participate, the primary researcher or one of the research assistants will individually interview you, observe some of your lessons, and collect artifacts if needed. During the individual interview you will be asked to discuss your graduate education experience and your experience as a classroom music teacher. This interview will be audio- recorded, After the audio recording is written down (transcribed) the audio recording will be deleted. If you do not wish to be audio-recorded, you will still (or will not) be able to participate. The researcher will just take hand-notes. The interview will take approximately forty-five minutes, You will be given a pseudonym or false name in order to keep your identity confidential. Page 1 of 5
