Universal Design for Learning: This tool is helpful for all students. The video allows students to pause and re-
play the video as many times as they need to review the content. This tool is also helpful for parents and for
ELL students because this allows them to review where they need in the content and teach some academic
vocabulary. The video also provides closed captioning for students will hearing problems and ELL students.

Lesson idea implementation:

To open this lesson, I will ask students to discuss what they already know about Pearl Harbor. Once the class
is done discussing, each student will get a turn to write what they know on the SMART Board. Then we will
watch the Pearl Harbor iMovie as a class on the SMART Board. The video will introduce the WWII unit. We will
share three new facts we learned from the video.

I will ask the class if anyone in their family has served for our country. After everyone gets a turn to share,
every child will be writing a letter to a veteran. After we all write our letters, I will record each student
reading their letter and post on our class blog. Then we will be sending our letters to veterans.
Importance of technology: Videos are a great way to spark the interest of students. In a society that is
powered by media, students are normally captivated by videos and images. This is why I believe video is a
great way to introduce new topics instead of just discussing the topic. The use of a video camera for
recording, video editing tools, and class blog will also be used during this lesson.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: I will require a password to access the page on our classroom blog to
watch the videos of the students reading their letters to protect student’s information. In order to view the
videos, a password will be sent out to parents by agenda and Class Dojo. One cannot access the video without
the password.

Reflective Practice: This may be easier to make a two- or three-day project instead of trying to do all of it in
one day. The first day students can discuss with each other, brain storm on their letter and make a rough
draft. Then the next day do final drafts and create the videos.
