SUBJECT: CLICKING NOISE - FUSING UNIT

SYMPTOM:
A clicking noise can be heard coming from the fusing unit.

CAUSE:
Gaps between the pressure roller gear and pressure roller shaft (marked in red below) may allow the shaft to
slip inside the gear opening.

SOLUTION:
Production line:
1. Temporary solution: Two spacers are inserted as shown below to eliminate the gaps between the shaft
and gear opening.

Important: If you replace the gear on a machine that has these temporary solution gears installed, make
sure to reuse the spacers and insert them into the same gaps.

2. Permanent solution: The inside diameter of the pressure roller gear was changed to decrease the gaps.

In the field:
Replace the pressure roller gear with the modified one.
