1. LITERATURE REVIEW: (250 Words)

What does the literature/research say about this issue/topic? By using NAU
Library or Online Search engines, conduct a literature review.
 You need to include 5 different sources (book, journal article, web article
etc.) in your review. Try to use current sources as much as possible.
 You need to summarize and synthesize your sources by discussing a
common theme or issue.
 You don't need to critique your sources
 You don't need to evaluate your sources (if the sources are trustworthy,
weather the author has a bias or not)
 You need to provide background information such as history and
definitions

Advantages: Distance learning doesn’t require commuting. It allows you to save money. You can join the
class wherever you are. It allows self-paced learning. It accommodates everyone easily. Some may face
challenges at the onsite learning due to their disability. However, the distance learning provides equal
access to all.
Disadvantages: The instructor and students’ interaction may be limited due to class size. There might be
some technological challenges during the class such as internet connection, audio problem, etc. The
instructor’s feedback for your work may be delayed. The degree that you earned may not be accepted by
some employees. It is hard to know who complete the degree. It doesn’t allow you to socialize. Gaining
some skills to be a team member is important for career readiness. However, the distance learning
doesn’t provide that opportunity. It also limits students’ interactions within the class. The humane
relationship is limited.
2. REFLECTION: (250 Words)
 What is your personal opinion on this issue? Do you agree with the
research? If you agree or disagree, please explain why?
 Provide examples/experiences regarding this issue from school
perspective or If you are not working in a school, from your profession. Be
specific with your examples. You can mention software/hardware names,
specific methods that you plan to use, etc.
 How would you implement this research in your career? (At least 1
paragraph)

Reflection:
I choose distance learning for my master degree. I am a full time teacher aide. I have a family with four
children. There is no possibility for me to go to college and complete onsite master degree. I agree with
the research about self-pacing opportunity. I can log in at any time that I am available and complete my
work. I also agree with the research finding about the technological hardship. I have a high speed internet
at home but I have experience a unique challenge to log in the NA website. Some teachers’ feedback was
in delay.
We use software at our school. The students have opportunity to be in a blended learning environment.
They use ALEKS for math. We test them three times in a year. In fall, each student’s math course is crafted
based on their personal NWEI Map scores. Students have an opportunity to complete their assignments in
the lab on their learning pace.
Some students need more time and support. Some don’t.
When I become a full time teacher, I will try to utilize technology to improve my students’ learning. All
have a different educational background. They need to be supported equitably. Each student’s learning
style is also different. I can have a great flexibility to satisfy my different learners.
