The Organizations and Activities of

Koreans immigrated to Mexico in 1905 which Koreans had the state
themselves. But because of Japanese annexing Korea in 1910, Koreans in
Mexico became a missing child of the community of nations. Thus in spite
of hard working in Henequen Hacienda, they tried to gain independence to
Japanese.
Koreans in Mexico organized the Korea National Association of Medida
Branch(abbreviate KNA), Yucatan on the May of 9th, 1909, and Lee
Gun-yong organized the Korean Military Academy(Sungmu-Hakgyo) in 1910.
After that, Koreans organized the other KNA branches in Mexico,
Oxaqueno, Veracruz, Frontera Tabasco, and Mexicocity DF.
The KNA mainly collected the contributions for independence movement
and the Central Headquarter of KNA in San Francisco. Adminstration of
the KNA in Mexico kept going on sending the funds to the Central
Headquarter of KNA.
But the Koreans' economic conditions in Mexico were worse after Mexico
Revolution in 1910. So Koreans went to the other regions from Yucatan. By
December of 1917, 42 per cent of Koreans in Yucatan left there, were only
593 people.
An Chang-ho, the president of the Central KNA, came to Mexico in 1917.
He went around Mexico for soothing the Korean. And he persuaded the
ower of Hacienda for Korean labors with confidence. So he made Merida of
KNA 'the regulation of labor.' And He wanted to establish the General
Office of KNA in Mexico, made the petition for the Central KNA.
On the other hand, Koreans in Mexico who had heard March 1st,

Movement in Motherland. Koreans started activities to support the
organizations of independence movement to fund. Therefore Koreans in
Mexico appealed to Mexican for help Korean independence movement, and
supported the Korean Provisional Government which was big fruit of March
1st Movement. Koreans in Mexico exerted for indirect aids as the
independence funds. However though they had economic conditions less
than mainland residents. By December, the funds for independence
movement in Merida were about 1,000 dollars.

메리다지방회는 미주의 국민회 총회의 규칙을 따르는 조직으로 임원의 임기는 1년이
며, 매월 통상회를 개최하였다. 1910년 4월 통상회에서는 새로운 임원을 선출하였는데,
회장 정춘식, 부회장 서현우, 총무 이명원, 서기 신광희, 재무 신광희, 법무 이환응, 학무
허완, 구제 정덕천, 사찰 김동완․이홍선, 외교원 이업동, 평의원 이근영․김윤원․김제
선․이수근․공인덕․감문형․김귀연․박국천․이화용 등이 임명되었다.28)
그후 메리다지방회는 1916년 1월 자치규정을 공식으로 메리다 지방법원에 청원하여 인허
를 얻은 단체가 되었다.29)

La Región de Mérida es una organización que sigue las reglas de la Asamblea Nacional de las
Américas. Su mandato es de un año.

Y celebró una reunión ordinaria cada mes. En abril de 1910, la Asamblea General eligió un nuevo
oficial,

Secretario Shin Kwang-hee, Tesorero Shin Kwang-hee, Asuntos legales

Huhwan, Gaje Jeongdeokcheon, templos budistas Kim Dongwan, Lee Hongseon, eruditos
extranjeros Lee Dong-dong, concejales Lee Geun Young, Kim Yunwon,

(1975), que fue la primera vez en los Estados Unidos,

Después de eso, el Consejo Regional de Mérida presentó una petición ante el Tribunal del Distrito
de Mérida en enero de 1916.

산타페에 이주한 한인들은 6월 10일 산타페지방회를 설립하고, 회장에 정덕천, 부회장

에 이명원, 총무에 진광익, 서기에 진광익, 재무에 이영식, 학무원에 서병학, 법무원에
이희택, 구제원에 이응섭, 외교원에 김성근, 대의원에 김성민, 사찰에 이윤상․김갑봉을
선출하였다.89) 하지만 이곳 산타페지방으로 이주한 한인들은 수토가 맞지 않고 혹심한
기후를 이기지 못하여 열병과 각종 질병으로 고통을 당하였으며,90) 그곳에도 경제 공황
으로 과달라하라(Guadalajara)지방으로 다시 옮겨가는 한인들이 늘어났다.91)

Sin embargo, los inmigrantes coreanos que se mudaron a la región de Santa Fe aquí no están
satisfechos con el suelo.

Sufrir de fiebre y diversas enfermedades por no poder ganar el clima, 90)

El número de coreanos que regresan a la provincia de Guadalajara aumentó.91)
