Ethics of Eating

Eating is a natural instinct to a human body. A lot of us like to try new foods from

different countries that we have never been before. The majority of us enjoy eating meat. In the

article “The Ethics of Eating” by “Peter singer”, he informs us that most or all of the farm

animals we eat are getting treated poorly. So I bring up the question, should the majority of

people go vegetarian or continue how they are? Although farm animals get treated badly, that

doesn’t mean that we don’t need meat to survive. Meat has many proteins and is extremely

rich in nutrients and help the human body grow. When you don’t eat meat as often or at all

your body will, in fact, become weak.

To start off, we don’t have to become a vegetarian to prevent farm animals from being

abused. There are many different ways to do that, but becoming vegetarian may help, but it will

also damage your body. You would not have enough strength for the day and may become very

exhausted. Peter Singer states,” More common is the view that we are justified in eating meat,

as long as the animals have a decent life before they are killed.” this explains that you don’t

have to become a vegetarian to stop abuse. Many people feel the same and all they want is for

the farm animals to have a natural life before they die.

I see the point of view you are giving out about having a common view but, if we go

vegetarian, the factories will see that we are disliking the treatment of farm animals which is

badly. Just look at what Peter Singer had to say, “But they never leave the shed until they are

taken to slaughter.” this brings up the concern that the farm animals aren’t having a decent life

and if we keep eating meat factories would not care how they treat them as long as they get

their moneys worth. Although you state a valid point about factories not caring unless its about

money, you need to understand that we need the nutrients and protein for our body and that

there are many ways to get big companies to notice us, such as a protest and standing up to

them.

To conclude, factories are mistreating farm animals and us as the consumers need to

find a way to stop them from hurting the farm animals. We all eat what we want but that

shouldn’t mean that the animals we eat should be tortured and mistreated just for the human

population to be fed. Peter singer brings up fascinating points in his article,” The Ethics of

Eating” points that need to be taken more seriously.
