Figueres, Christiana, and Philip J. Landrigan “Tackling Air Pollution, Climate Change, and

NCDs: Time to Pull Together.” The Lancet, Elsevier, 25 Oct. 2018,

www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0140673618327405.

The article entitled “Tackling Air Pollution, Climate Change, and NCDs: Time to Pull

Together.” published in 2018 in The Lancet describes the connection between pollution and the

effects it has on the earth. The article illustrates the amount of air pollution that is responsible for

an estimate of 6.5 million deaths annually and it is time to call for action. The author states that

most of the air pollution is produced by drivers of NCD Mortality. NCD Mortality is described in

the article to be a non-communicable disease. The article specifies that “These pollutants are

responsible for 21% of deaths from cardiovascular disease, 26% of deaths from ischaemic heart

disease deaths, 23% of stroke deaths, 51% of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

, and 43% of lung cancer deaths. They caused widespread cognitive dysfunction and

neurobehavioral impairment.” Therefore, pollution has been neglected, and “only 15% of the

climate change plans” under the Paris Agreement. The author argues that NCD control on health

will matter because every breath matters.

greenhouse gases. This is important because it provides a different perspective for the readers to

have. The article has helped shape my argument because it provided credible information on the

different effects greenhouse gases cause. The information provided has helped shape my

research paper because it gave information that can be used throughout different examples

regarding greenhouse gases.
