Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson plan offers different forms of representation with the media,
allowing students to learn visually, audibly, and create their own projects. All students can participate and
learn using these tools. Students will have voice and choice in the extended lesson and the ability to share
their projects with peers and others.

Lesson idea implementation:

In this activity, students will begin by watching the video I have created. After watching, we will define fossils
and discuss how they are formed and what we can infer from them. The students will then be given the
chance to search online for information to gather knowledge and record it in their notebooks. The students
will work in groups to choose a type of fossil they would like to learn about. The students will create their own
movie on iMovie or Adobe Spark to inform the class about the organism that was in the fossil.

As the students gather information, they will be asked to add it to a document that can be shared with me so
I can review the content. The students will be assessed by the amount and quality of the content of their
videos. They will need to have at least 5 photos in their Adobe Spark/iMovie video and find a video about the
kind of fossil they are learning about. They will need to add 5 facts about the organism that was left in the
fossil. I will provide feedback after they submit their video to me and share with the class.
Importance of technology:
This multimedia tool enhances the learning and experience for the students to create a product that shows
they understand the content and can form their own ideas. The project could be completed without the

technology, but I feel this is more exciting to share with the class and offers more creative approaches. The
students will need access to a computer or tablet to create the video.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

While using the internet, students will only go to sites that are permitted by the school district. Students will
be closely monitored to make sure they are staying on task and their personal information is not shared.
Before beginning the project, I will inform parents about what we will be doing in the class and how It will
positively impact learning. I will make sure we only use images without watermarks and we will not use
music/video/audio subject to copyright. We will give all media used in the videos proper credit.

Reflective Practice:
This activity will positively impact student learning, as it will make students feel proud of their finished projects and allow
them to share their videos with their classmates. As they work together to create an informative video, the students will
learn about collaboration skills that will follow them through their academic careers. In furthering the lesson, the
students could create a fun podcast that discusses what they learned about the fossil/organism they studied and how
they imagined its life looked like. Students could use Audacity to record the audio and share it with peers.
