SUBIECTUL I (30 puncte)

Read the text below and complete the following tasks.

The past weekend’s Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference saw an absurd farce. At midnight
Friday, September 22th, 2008 Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani went on a ferry ride with all other
passengers aboard supporters of Texas Congressman Ron Paul. Nearly 100 Ron Paul supporters were
waiting on the dock when they were surprised to see Giuliani appear with his bodyguards walking
toward the ferryboat. The crowd started cheering Ron Paul’s name and Giuliani’s smiling face suddenly
turned in amazement. Informed that it was the last ferry, Giuliani ended up boarding with those Ron
Paul supporters and took the “longest” ferry ride in his life.
All through the trip, Giuliani was “hiding” beneath the window in the captain’s cabinet, with bodyguards
standing around him to block the sight. The crowd kept cheering Ron Paul’s name again and again all
the way, for almost 20 minutes. When the ferry reached Mackinac City, Giuliani went out of the captain’s
cabinet with a cheering face and offered to shake hands with passengers sitting in the first row but they
were reluctant to do so.

SEMESTRIAL PAPER
Read the text below and complete the following tasks.
More and more people live in large cities these days and this means that it is becoming more and more
difficult to find space and time for ourselves. But for many people, personal privacy is very important.
Teenagers especially need their own personal space at home where they can feel relaxed and private.
But, of course, not all teenagers are lucky enough to have a room of their own. Where space is short,
they often have to share a bedroom with a brother or sister. In that case, it's a good idea for them to
have a special area or corner of the room to mind their own. It's especially important for young people
to have somewhere to keep their personal things. This may or may not be a tidy place and it is not a
good idea for parents to try and tell teenagers how to organize their space as this is likely to lead to
arguments. Parents can, however, make sure that there are enough storage spaces such as shelves,
cupboards and boxes.
