the issues.
1. Name of the village: KOTHULNA, MAHARASHTRA
2. Distance from IMT: 40 K.M.
3. Taluka/ Nagar Parishad: Khapa
4. Tehsil: Savner.
5. District: Nagpur.
6. Population: 1851 (both village Kothulna and Nimkalai- kusambi).
7. Male/Female ratio: 3:1
8. Caste: Majority SC/ST. Less general category

9. Infrastructure:
Telephone - 99% people have phones,
Electricity - Cable TV, Dish TV available, less people have refrigerators. Limited supply of 3
phase electricity for irrigation purpose.
Transportation - Government buses make travel easy. The village touches the main highway.
Sanitation - All houses have private toilets,
Distribution of vehicles - 3-4 Tractors, 3 big cars, 100 Motorcycles. Village is well connected
with the roads.
10. Banking:
99% people have a bank account. Preferably IDBI bank (under jan dhan scheme). A group of 21
people invest 200 per month & the return amount is used in farming. No ATM, No Bank in the
village. People go to another village nearby. All have voting cards and participate in local
elections but not in major elections. 60% people have PAN cards.
11. Shops:

Basic grocery shops available. Sanitary Napkins are also available at these stores. Medical stores
available. Ration cards are used by the villagers.

12. Education:
Zilla Parishad School- 1st to 4th standard. 70 students approx. Sex Ratio of the school is 3:2.

Many students leave school at an early stage to join farming.


It is also used as voting booth during the time of voting. Proper drinking water supply is also
available at the school.

13. Health center:


No facility is available, medical facility is available only at khapa tehsil. The panchayat is
reserved as women seat. The panchayat has 3 wards and kanan river is flowing nearby. The
village seen 60% voting in General election and 99% panchayat elections. Total area of the
village is 196 acres. It is centre for nearby 12- 13 villages.

13. Agriculture related information:


Kharif/Rabi- crops grown- food/cash/horticulture:
● 75% Cotton farming Rabi, 25%. Kharif farming wheat.
● Soil also consists of boulders and muram in heavy amount.
● New techniques used.
● Have tractors and use sprinkler system.
● Chemicals used. No organic farming techniques used. (improvement required)

14. Land holding pattern:


Farmers/ villagers are majorly land holders of the village and they irrigate small patches of land.

15. Allied activity: Dairy

16. Cattle- Not fed with natural fodder that is without any optimization technique poultry, honey
collection. No dairy services available.

17. Presence of services within village:


● 90% people have HP gas cylinders.
● A dairy in the village.
● Nearest Police station at Khapa (16 kms away)
● Aasha workers distribute medicines when people are ill.
● No NGO Exposure
● Almost all villagers have aadhar card and voter ID.
● Approximately 12 Self help group of women consisting 10 members each but its mostly
inactive due to no work available.
● Airtel, Jio Vodafone are the main network service provider
● Every house hold has gas connection.(HP majorly).
● Mid day meal and pregnant women meal are provided regularly.
● Insurance - 70%cover.
● All major brands are available in the village shops like yippee , fruity, Parle G ,colgate, all
FMCG products from HUL,ITC, etc
● Temple are there as majority is of Hindu population ,no mosque.

18. Mobile/Vehicle Density:


High mobile and vehicle penetration, almost every household is connected with mobile and a
vehicle
19. Time Line: 1980-2019
Seasonal calendar- June- May ( Not Jan – Dec) earlier there was no development in farming
method ,earlier the main farming was of oranges which is now shifted to cotton because it is
more profitable, houses were of kabelu and mud ,since then now a lot of development happened
in terms of education, awareness, income is still low ,

22. Income: Main source of income is farming and as a labour to other farmers. During harvest
season, additional labor comes from state like MP to help in farming.

Labour rate 300-400
23. Critical factors in tackling of an issue: animals like cheetah escape from Nearby national
park attacked the villagers, cow, goat a number of times
24. Scalability/quality/backward/forward linkages/mindset change /key players

PROPOSAL/ PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED:-
 Digital school
 School Toilets Does not have doors.
 Water scarcity issue
 Last year government gave 45lac under a project that was used to fetch water from the
nearby canal. Right now the work is in progress.

 No bore possible because water level is very low.


 60ft deep well dug and no water was found.
 Clean mineral water filters required. Water venting machine types.
 Load shedding problem
 No public toilet is available for citizens.
 Garbage can be found on the side of the roads as no trash cans are available.
 3 phase only available for 8 hrs. that makes the usage of appliances difficult.
 No particular permanent income source is available. A lot of the earnings from farming
get cut in taxes. 12k paid per month as taxes which takes away almost 1.5lac per year.
 Government scheme like MNREGA are not helpful and properly implemented
 Product/service/social cause related: no digital payment used paytm,m pesa

29. Any other issue:


● No government services implementation, only 15 houses under awaas yojana , no work under
MNREGA ,Beti bachao and beti padhao ETC
● No private investment in the area,
● No industry and manufacturing area
● No ATM in the village
30. Very limited health facility available (dispensary, doctor, nurse, shops ,some private are
available.

PLAN OF ACTION

1. Public toilets needs to build by the panchayat and trach cans are also need to be placed on
roadsides.

2. Barbed wires are need to be placed to stop wild animals to enter into the village.

3. Facilities and aid can be provided by collection of funds and amenities can be done through
local NGO that have been already associated with the village.

4. These funds can be utilised to provide the villagers with the mineral water machines
regarding which we already had a word with the Sarpanch and the respective faculty
members.

5. Workshop can be arranged by the school for students for their counseling and guidance.
