PRE-TEACHING
Justification
This section of the planning process helps you think through why this lesson is necessary. It is
the data that supports your purpose for the lesson. Each section in bold below needs to be fully
answered. It contains the following:
1) Pre-assessment:
In order to evaluate what students already know, we will use Edulastic to test the students’ prior
knowledge. The pretest will consist of 5 questions involving; adding, subtracting, exponents,
division, and multiplication.
2) Purpose and relevance:
We are using the pretest in order to assess the students’ prior knowledge on adding,
subtracting, multiplying, dividing numbers and simplifying exponents in order to build the basis
for Order of Operations and understanding parentheses. It is important for students to
understand parentheses because they will be using them in their future math careers.
3) Objectives:
After this lesson, the student will be able to:
● Follow order of operations correctly
● Use parentheses and solve equations that involve parentheses
6) Post-Assessment:
We will use SurveyMonkey to test the students on what they learned. Students who either had
trouble with the lesson or are afraid of getting an answer wrong and someone being able to see
that they got an answer wrong will feel better taking this survey because it is anonymous. If a
majority of the class gets one of the questions wrong, then we as teachers will be able to see
where we need to make adjustments in our lesson plan and where students need more help
understanding the concepts.
LESSON PLANNING
Think about the following considerations as you plan instruction to better meet the needs of all
learners.
Instructional Materials:
- Students need to have access to a technological device Preferably a computer
- Students should have Pencil and paper
- SmartBoard
- Phone (teacher)
Differentiation:
Information will be presented on the slides for students who are better visual learners and
students who learn better when they read. Information will be spoken for auditory learners.
Students will be able to interact with the board and game. This can help students who are very
hands-on learners.
During Teaching
Procedures:
These are the sequential steps you design to scaffold the students’ understanding of the skills
or concepts necessary to achieve the objectives.
Introduction:
· How will you assess students’ prior knowledge? (pre-assessment)
· How will you motivate the students to be engaged in the lesson? (enthusiasm)
· How will you get their attention? (classroom management techniques)
Describe the sequence of your lesson: this should involve not only what you will do, but also
what the students will do.
