At the time that the Indian Constitution was commenced, there were 395 articles which
were divided in 22 parts and 8 schedules. Already the longest constitution in the world
has now grown to 448 articles in 25 parts, 12 schedules with 5 appendices and 102

The Constitution of India, whose chief architect was Dr B.R. Ambedkar, was adopted by
the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949 and came into force on 26th January
