Thanu got MP Birla Memorial Award
• Physicist Thanu Padmanabhan received the M P Birla Memorial Award 2019 for his contributions to the
world of cosmology.
• He is a professor of Inter-university Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pune.
• The award was introduced in 1993 in recognition to the excellence in research in Astronomy, Astrophysics,
Space Science and related areas.
Greta Thunberg wins 'alternative Nobel Prize'
• Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg was named as one of four winners of the 2019 Right
Livelihood Award, known as Sweden's alternative Nobel Prize.
• Thunberg won the award for inspiring and amplifying political demands for urgent climate action reflecting
scientific facts.
• She shares the award with Brazilian indigenous leader Davi Kopenawa of the Yanomami people.
CIAL won an international award
• Cochin International Airport Ltd has been selected as the best airport in terms of services it offered to
passengers, based on a survey conducted by Airport Council International (ACI).
• CIAL was emerged the topper in 5-15 million passenger category among the airports in the Asia-Pacific
region.
• It ranked amongst the best airports in the 5-15 mn category in the Asia Pacific region for 2018.
National Tourism Awards 2017-18 presented
• Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu presented the National Tourism Awards 2017-18 on World Tourism Day
in New Delhi on 27 September 2019.
• A total of 76 Awards under various categories were presented.
• On this occasion, a workshop on ‘Tourism Jobs of the Future’ was also organized by UNWTO in
collaboration with its affiliate member in India, Outlook Responsible Tourism Initiative.
Infosys bagged UN Global Climate Action Award
• Infosys has received the United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ category.
• Infosys is the only corporate from India to earn the recognition for its efforts to combat climate change.
• The announcement of the winners was made after the UN Climate Summit in New York convened by UN
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Payal Jangid received the Changemaker Award
• Payal Jangid became the 1st Indian to receive the Changemaker Award 2019 at the Goalkeepers Global
Goals Awards 2019.
• The Award was presented by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation at a ceremony held in New York, US.
• She is the President of her village’s Bal Panchayat.
• She was awarded for her work towards the abolition of child marriage in her village and other neighbouring
areas.
National Water Mission Awards 2019 presented
• NWM, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti
has initiated the ‘National Water Mission Awards’ to recognize excellence in water conservation, and
efficient water use.

Bangladesh: PM Hasina received Award
• PM Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh was conferred the Dr Kalam Smriti International Excellence Award 2019 in
Dhaka on 16 September 2019.
• The award has been instituted in the memory of former Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
• The award citation lauded Prime Minister Hasina for her vision of a peaceful and prosperous South Asia,
free of tension, conflicts and terrorism.
Eminent Engineers Award conferred
• Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board was awarded with Eminent Engineers Award.
• The award was presented at the special event to mark the 52nd Engineers’ Day organised by the Institution
of Engineers in New Delhi on 15 September 2019.
• The award was given for his outstanding contributions in the field of engineering.
• The theme of 52nd Engineers’ Day was Engineering for change.
Ambassador Navdeep Suri honoured by UAE
• UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has bestowed the First Class Order of Zayed II award on
Ambassador, Navdeep Singh Suri.
• The award was given in recognition of his efforts during his tenure and his contribution to the development
and strengthening of friendly relations and co-operation between the two friendly countries.
• It is a rare honour given to any diplomat.
Bangladesh School project wins Aga Khan Award
• An innovative project for constructing a floating school for marginalised children in Bangladesh has been
awarded the prestigious Aga Khan Architecture Award 2019.
• The award was given to the Republic of Tatarstan for the Arcadia Education Project in South Kanarchor of
Bangladesh.
• The project involved the construction of a school in an area which is underwater during the monsoon
months.
5 Indian women police officers honoured by UN
• 5 Indian women police officers were honoured by the United Nations for their commendable services in UN
mission in South Sudan.
• These are Reena Yadav, Gopika Jahagirdar, Bharati Samantray, Ragini Kumari, and Kamal Shekhawat.
• The women officers were honoured with medals by the United Nation for upholding the UN mandate of
protection of civilians in conflict-ridden South Sudan.
CBSE Teacher Awards - 2018 presented
• Union HRD Ramesh Pokhriyal ' Nishank' presented CBSE Teacher Awards - 2018 to 34 teachers of the
country on 12 September 2019.
• He also launched CBSE's portal 'Vidyadhan' on Diksha App, a Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge
Sharing (National Forum for Teachers) and released CBSE's annual activity calendar.
• He also released 10 CBSE Manuals on various subjects like art integration.
Pawan Munjal to be honoured

• MD and Chairman of Hero MotoCorp, Pawan Munjal will be inducted into the 2019 Asia Pacific Golf Hall of
Fame.
• He will be inducted for his support to Golf in India and around the world.

• With the honour, he will join the legendary players such as Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player who were
bestowed with the same.
Boycott & Strauss honoured with knighthoods
• England cricket greats Geoffrey Boycott and Andrew Strauss have been given knighthoods by Theresa May
in her resignation honours list.
• Both received the honour for their services to sport after outstanding careers for England.
• Geoffrey played 108 tests between 1964-1982 for England and scored 8,114 Test runs.
• Andrew played 100 tests for England from 2004-12, scoring more than 7,000 runs.

• Recipients of Visitor’s Awards 2019 were announced on September 09, 2019 by the President’s Secretariat.
• This year Visitor’s Awards will be presented for Research in - Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; Physical

• The Visitor’s Award for Research in Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences will be presented to Prof. Sibnath

Joker won Golden Lion at Venice film festival
• Film Joker won the Golden Lion Award at the 76th Venice International Film Festival on 7 September 2019.
• Jury president Lucretia Martel announced the winners of the prestigious award during a ceremony on the
Lido.
• Roman Polanski’s Dreyfus affair film, An Officer and a Spy, won the grand jury prize.
• Roy Andersson won best director for About Endlessness.
'Oscar Of Science' Award announced
• The team from the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration project won the ‘Breakthrough Prize in
Fundamental Physics’ - an award considered the ‘Oscars of Science’.
• The team won a prize of $3 million for their work.
• The Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration project published the first image of a supermassive black hole.
Railways won award
• Shri Ram Nath Kovind presented an award to Indian Railways as the best ministry for implementation of
Swachhata action plan for 2018-19.
• He also presented the best Swachh iconic Place award to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai
under the Swachh Bharat Mission initiative.
• The three best stations as per Cleanliness Ranking Survey for 2018 were Jodhpur, Jaipur & Tirupati.
Institute of Eminence status to 5 institutions
• The HRD Ministry awarded the Institute of Eminence status to 5 public institutions.
• The status was awarded to the following institutions: IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, Delhi University, Benares
Hindu University, University of Hyderabad.
• Each of the above university has to sign a MoU with the HRD Ministry and will lay out its plan to achieve the
objective of becoming a world-class institution.

World Heart Day 2019: September 29
• World Heart Day (WHD) is observed annually on 29 September across the world.
• The day which is celebrated annually creates awareness of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) including heart
disease & stroke and highlights the preventive and control measures.
• It was launched in 2000 by the World Heart Federation as an annual event.
• The theme for the World Heart Day 2019 is My Heart, Your Heart.

• WHO observes World Rabies Day on 28 September every year. The day is celebrated annually to raise
awareness about rabies prevention and to highlight progress in defeating this horrifying disease.
• The UN observes International Translation Day on 30 September every year. International Translation Day is
meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals.
Int. Day for Elimination of Nuclear Weapons
• The UN observes 26 Sept every year as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
• The day provides an occasion for the world community to reaffirm its commitment to global nuclear
disarmament as a priority.
• It provides an opportunity to educate the public – and their leaders – about the real benefits of eliminating
such weapons.

• The United Nations observes 26 September every year as the World Maritime Day.
• The theme for 2019 is: Empowering women in the maritime community.
• It provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality, in line with the United

• The United Nations observes 27 September every year as World Tourism Day.
• The UN World Tourism Organization expects that tourism will continue to grow at an average of 3%
annually until 2030.

World Rose Day 2019: 22 September
• Every year Sept 22 is observed as World Rose Day.
• This day, celebrated in the memory of 12-year-old Melinda Rose from Canada, aims at introducing sparks of
happiness into the lives of people who are fighting cancer.
• Melinda Rose was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer, Askin’s Tumour.
• While doctors said she wouldn’t survive more than a couple of weeks, she lived on for 6 months.

• The Department of Community Development (DCD) in Abu Dhabi awarded licences for the existing 18 non-
Muslim places of worship in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi; 17 churches and the BAPS Hindu Mandir which is
under construction in Abu Dhabi.
• Pujya Brahmavihari Swami and Dr B. R. Shetty on behalf of the Board of Directors accepted the license
TH001 at a formal ceremony at the Emirates Palace.
Saudi Arabia wins membership in IAEA Board
• Saudi Arabia has won a membership in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency
(IAEA) for a period of two years 2019-2021.
• The election was held in the 63rd session of the IAEA General Conference held in Vienna, Austria.
• The board is responsible for making most of the policy of the IAEA and makes recommendations to the
General Conference on IAEA activities.
Amazon vows to be carbon neutral by 2040
• Amazon.com Inc CEO Jeff Bezos committed the company to being carbon neutral by 2040 and said part of
that pledge is an order for 100,000 electric delivery vans from a start-up the online retailer has invested in.
• The first electric delivery vans for Amazon will be on the road by 2021, and all 100,000 will be deployed by
2024.
South Asia’s tallest tower in Sri Lanka
• Sri Lanka unveiled South Asia’s tallest tower, costing over $100 million, 80% of which has been funded by
China under the controversial Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
• The 350-metre-tall 17-storey Lotus Tower is located in the heart of Colombo city.
• The tower is spread over an area of 30,600 sq. metres.
• The project began in 2012 under the then-president Mahinda Rajapakse.
Mongolian Prez in New Delhi on 5 day visit
• President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga arrived in New Delhi on 19 September 2019 on a 5-day state
visit.
• The visiting dignitary will meet President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime
Minister Narendra Modi.
• Both sides will hold discussions on a range of bilateral, regional and global issues and will review ongoing
cooperation in fields of infrastructure, etc.
New York: 2nd US State to ban E-Cigarettes
• New York became the second US state to ban flavored e-cigarettes, following several vaping-linked deaths.
• A health council passed emergency legislation proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo outlawing flavored
vaping products amid an outbreak of severe pulmonary disease that has killed seven people and sickened
hundreds.
• Michigan became the first state to declare a ban on it.
38th Sharjah Intl. Book Fair to be organized
• The 38th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) will be organized from 30th of October to 9th
of November 2019.
• UNESCO has named Sharjah as the World Book Capital City for the year 2019 in recognition of the city’s
continuous efforts in promoting books and literacy.
• Aligning itself with the title, the SIBF will be organized under the theme 'Open Books, Open Minds'.

Qatar unveiled 2022 FIFA World Cup logo
• Qatar unveiled the logo for the 2022 World Cup which will be hosted by the Gulf emirate, displaying it in

• The design is a stylised Arabic white unisex shawl with maroon patterning, which is displayed in a figure-of-
eight symbolising infinity while creating a heart shape above the words FIFA WORLD CUP Qatar 2022.
Nankana station to be named after Guru Nanak
• The Nankana Sahib railway station in Pakistan's Punjab province will be named after Guru Nanak Dev, the
founder of Sikhism.
• It will be one of the best stations in Pakistan and will play a vital role in promoting religious tourism in the
country.
• A new train, namely Baba Guru Nanak train, would also be started from Lahore to Nankana soon.
Borneo: Site of new capital of Indonesia
• Indonesia's President Joko Widodo has said that capital city will be relocated to the province of East
Kalimantan on the island of Borneo.
• The site in the province of East Kalimantan is at “minimal” risk of natural disasters.
• The current capital, Jakarta, home to more than 10 million people, sits on swampy land.
• No name was given for the capital's planned replacement.
• A new book, 'Phoolpur: Indian Flowers, Their Myths, Traditions and Usage', written by Jhelum Biswas Bose
will be released on 8 September 2019.
Volume 2 of ‘Loktantra Ke Swar' released
• Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu released the books ‘Loktantra Ke Swar (Khand 2)’ and ‘The
Republican Ethic (Volume 2)’ in a function organized at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra, New Delhi.
• The books are a compilation of 95 speeches delivered by the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind during
his second year in office (July 2018 to July 2019).
Book on the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
• The book, India’s Lost Frontier the Story of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan, has been penned
by veteran civil servant Raghvendra Singh and was released recently.
• He was the Director-General of the National Archives of India.
• This book is based on the history of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, earlier known as the North-West
Frontier Province (NWFP).

• National women’s badminton coach Kim Ji-Hyun has stepped down from her post of National women’s
coach of India. She has played a vital role in helping P.V. Sindhu win the 2019 badminton World
Championship gold.
• Animation producer J. Michael Mendel, known for his work on 'The Simpsons' and 'Rick and Morty' passed
away in September 2019. He was a four-time Emmy award-winner.
Ponung Doming created history
• Ponung Doming, created history after she became the first woman officer from Arunachal Pradesh to hold
the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army.

jewellery and gold in water technology.
• Ministry of HRD announced a new PPP Scheme, National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) for
using technology for better learning outcomes in Higher Education.
• The objective is to use Artificial Intelligence to make learning more personalised and customised as per the
requirements of the learner.
• MHRD proposed to launch and operationalise NEAT in early November 2019.
Airtel Payments Bank launched new scheme
• Airtel Payments Bank launched 'Bharosa savings account' which enables customers to withdraw cash, check
their balance or access a mini statement of their account at over 6,50,000 Aadhaar-enabled payment
system (AePS) enabled outlets across India.
• These services have been designed for deepening financial inclusion in the country.
• It will be available at over a quarter-million banking points.
Centre to give support of Rs 8,500 cr to ECGC
• The Central government will give support of Rs 8,500 crore to Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India,
ECGC, in the next five years.
• Interest rates will now be just close to 3.5 per cent.
• ECGC has introduced a scheme called Niryat Rin Vikash Yojana - NIRVIK to enhance loan availability to
exporters.
• The scheme will also help ease the lending process.
‘Mukhyamantri Dal Poshit Yojana’ launched
• ‘Mukhyamantri Dal Poshit Yojana’ was launched in Uttarakhand on 13 September 2019.
• Under the scheme, two kilogrammes of pulses per month would be made available to 23.32 lakh ration card
holders.
• Under the Dal Poshit Yojana, chick pea is being made available at a rate of Rs 44 per kg this month.
• The current market rate of this pulse is Rs 65 to 70 per kg.
Govt notifies e-assessment process
• The central government has notified the ambitious e-assessment scheme also called the faceless
assessment for income-tax payers.
• The centre will serve notices to the assessees specifying the issues for selection of their case for assessment
and after a response is received from them within 15 days, the centre will allocate the case to an assessing
officer using an automated system.
Odd-even scheme to be implemented in Delhi
• Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that odd-even road rationing scheme will be implemented in Delhi
from November 4 to 15, 2019.
• The move was aimed at combating high levels of air pollution in winters when crop stubble burning takes
place in neighbouring states.
• Under the scheme, odd and even-numbered vehicles ply on alternate days. Delhi has earlier also
experimented with Odd-Even plan.
Maritime communication services launched
• Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad launched
maritime communication services.
• He also launched a web portal for reporting stolen mobiles to help trace them.

• Maritime connectivity will enable high-end support to those travelling on sailing vessels, cruise liners and
ships in India.
Haryana launched two insurance schemes
• The State government of Haryana launched 2 insurance schemes for registered small and medium traders.
• The schemes are Mukhyamantri Vyapari Samuhik Niji Durghatna Beema Yojana and Mukhyamantri Vyapari
Kshatipurti Beema Yojana“.
• An insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh would be provided under the former one.
• An insurance cover ranging from Rs 5 lakh-Rs 25 lakh would be provided under the latter one.
CHC Farm Machinery App launched
• Minister of State for Agriculture, Parshottam Rupala has launched a multilingual Mobile App CHC Farm
Machinery during a conference on Crop Residue Management in New Delhi.
• The app will allow farmers to avail custom hiring services of CHCs located in a radius of 50 km.
• With the help of it, the farmers will now be able to get affordable access to cutting-edge technology at their
doorsteps.
J&K govt to roll out MISP Scheme
• In J&K, the Special Market Intervention Price Scheme (MISP) will be rolled out to procure nearly 12 Lakh
Metric Tons of Apple from farmers of Kashmir on remunerative prices.
• Nearly 60% of the estimated annual Apple production will be procured from the Apple growers nearer their
doorsteps.
• The period of procurement would be for six month beginning 1st of September 2019.
Kisan Man Dhan Yojana to be launched on 12 Sep
• PM Narendra Modi will launch Kisan Man Dhan Yojana (KMDY) scheme during his visit to Jharkhand on
September 12, 2019.
• It will secure the lives of 5 crore small and marginal farmers by providing a minimum pension of Rs 3,000
per month to those who have attained the age of 60.
• He will also inaugurate 400 Ekalvya Model Residential schools.
Rs 125 crore allotted to IIT-Kharagpur
• IIT Kharagpur has been selected for setting up a Sophisticated Analytical and Technical Help Institute
(SATHI), a Department of Science and Technology initiative of the Centre, for which Rs 125 crore has been
earmarked over a period of three years.
• The primary objective of the SATHI will be to extend help to the academic institutes in the neighbouring
regions.
Govt launches updated CLSS Scheme
• The government of India launched the updated Credit linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS) to allow micro,
small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) access to capital.
• The scheme provides an upfront subsidy of 15% on institutional credit up to Rs 1 crore for MSMEs in the
specified 51 sub-sectors.
• The government will also prepare a final report on the recommendations of the U K Sinha committee.
First Mega Food Park in Telangana
• Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated the first Mega Food
Park in Telangana.

• Astronomers have for the first time discovered water vapour in the atmosphere of a distant planet called
K2-18b.
• Astronomers at the University College London used data from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope to make the
discovery.
• They published their findings in the journal Nature Astronomy on 12 September 2019.
• The exoplanet, K2-18b, is eight times the mass of Earth and known as a super-Earth.
Cryodrakon boreas: The largest flying animal
• Scientists have unveiled a newly discovered species of a pterosaur, the largest ever flying animal according
to a study conducted by Queen Mary University in London.
• These species come from the Azhdarchid group of pterosaurs.
• The pterosaur’s name Cryodrakon boreas roughly translates to ‘frozen dragon of the north wind’.
India to launch deep sea research project
• India will launch ‘Samudrayaan’ project in 2021-22.
• The project proposes to send a submersible vehicle with three persons to a depth of about 6000 metres to
carry out deep underwater studies.
• The vehicle is capable of crawling on the sea bed at a depth of six-kilometre for 72 hours.
• The 'Samudrayaan' project undertaken by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT).
Lander Vikram lost its communication
• The lander of the lunar craft Chandrayaan 2 went incommunicado just minutes before its planned soft
landing near the moon's South Pole on 7 September 2019.
• Vikram Lander descent was initiated as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of
2.1 km.
• Subsequently, the communication from the Lander to the ground stations was lost.

• Malaria infection is linked to 30 per cent higher risk of heart failure, a new research has warned.
• The mosquito-borne infection affects more than 219 million people worldwide each year, according to the
2018 statistics of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Tata Sons).
Government constitutes a task force
• The central government has set up a task force to draw up plans for building infrastructure worth Rs 100
lakh crore over the next five years.
• The task force under the chairmanship of Secretary (DEA) has been constituted to draw up a 'national
infrastructure pipeline' from 2019-20 to 2024-25.
• The national infrastructure pipeline project would include greenfield and brownfield projects.
Panel to look into insurance guidelines
• Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has decided to review its 3-year-old
guidelines on trade credit insurance.
• Trade credit insurance policy provides coverage to a supplier of goods and services against delay in
payment or non-payments of trade credit.
• The panel will be headed by New India Assurance CMD Atul Sahai.

• A government constituted Committee has recommended for putting in place a comprehensive legal

SEBI penalised Aurobindo Pharma
• SEBI has imposed a penalty of over Rs 22 crore on Aurobindo Pharma and its promoters.
• They have been penalised for violating insider trading norms.
• The regulator had conducted an investigation into the trading in the scrip of Aurobindo Pharma Ltd.
• SEBI found that these entities purchased shares while in possession of the UPSI pertaining to Aurobindo,
and made unlawful gains.
RBI tightens norms for failed transactions
• The Reserve Bank of India prescribed a turnaround time (TAT) for banks to settle failed transactions for
customers and also notified compensations payable for various types of customer complaints.
• The timeline for auto-reversal has been set at between one day after the transaction to five days.
• Most financial compensations have been set at ₹100 per day if the reversal does not happen.
Govt waives lock in period for IDF bonds
• The government of India has waived the three-year lock-in period on investments made by non-residents in
Infrastructure Debt Funds (IDFs), to promote funding in the infrastructure sector.
• To attract off-shore investments into IDFs, any amount of interest received by non-resident or foreign
company from investment in such IDFs is charged at a reduced tax rate of 5%.
UAE tops in investments by non-residents
• According to the Reserve Bank of India’s, ‘Survey of Foreign Liabilities and Assets of Mutual Fund
Companies, 2018-19’, Non-residents’ (NRIs’) investments in Indian mutual funds are up by nearly a tenth
and is now approaching Rs 1 trillion.
• The UAE, the UK and the US were the largest investors together accounting for one-third of the MF units.
OECD slashes India's economic growth
• The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has projected the Indian economy to
grow by 6.3%.

8.65% interest rate for EPFO members
• Government has approved 8.65% interest rate on deposits in Employees Provident Fund for 2018-19.
• Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified 8.65% rate of interest on EPF deposits for its over six crore
subscribers.
• The EPFO has been settling EPF withdrawal claims at 8.55% interest rate, approved for 2017-18.
• Now, the EPFO will settle accounts on higher rate of 8.65% for 2018-19.
Scope of Bharat Bill Payment System expanded
• The RBI has expanded the scope of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) by adding other categories of
recurring payments through the portal.
• BBPS is an interoperable platform that enables a customer to pay bills such as telephone, water, gas, at a
single location.
• With the expansion of the scope of the payment facility, other recurring payments such as school fees can
also be paid via BBPS.
RBI increases banks' loan exposure limit
• The RBI increased loan exposure limit of banks to a single Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC)
- excluding gold loan companies - from 15% to 20% of its capital base.
• This move will help increase credit supply to the crisis-ridden shadow banking sector.
• NBFC are establishments that provide financial services and banking facilities without meeting the legal
definition of a Bank.
FDI grows to $16.33 bn in Q1 FY20
• According to government data, Foreign direct investment into India grew by 28% to $16.33 billion during
the first quarter of the current fiscal.
• The inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) during April-June of 2018-19 stood at 12.75 billion.
• Singapore emerged as the largest source of FDI in India during the first quarter of the fiscal with $5.33
billion investments.
MCX and Zhengzhou Exchange sign MoU
• The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) and Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE), one of the
leading commodity exchanges in China, have signed an MoU.
• The MoU will facilitate cooperation between the two exchanges in areas such as knowledge sharing,
education & training, organizing events.
• MCX offers commodity futures contracts in bullion, base metal, energy and agricultural commodities.
Standard Chartered launched DigiSmart card
• Standard Chartered Bank has launched a DigiSmart credit card that is focussed on millennials.
• The card is available for a monthly fee of ₹49, which will, however, be waived off if the customer spends
more than ₹5,000 in the previous month.

UPI Transactions jumped 6 Times In 2018-19

Equitas SFB misses RBI mandate of listing
• Equitas Small Finance Bank (SFB), which completed three years of operations on 4 September 2019, has
missed its listing timeline.
• Equitas Financial Holdings, which owns 100% stake in Equitas SFB — is a listed entity, the RBI rules mandate
that the SFB be listed separately within three years of launch of business.
• Equitas SFB, the first such bank, began operations on September 5, 2016.
India to go ahead with $3.1 billion US deal
• India is set to go ahead with a $3.1-billion deal with the US to acquire maritime aircraft for the Navy that
will add to its surveillance capabilities in the Indian Ocean Region.
• The procurement of 10 Boeing P8I maritime patrol aircraft is likely to be cleared at a key acquisition
meeting.
• The deal will include a mandatory clause for at least 30% offsets to domestic companies.
Crisil lowers India's GDP growth forecast
• Crisil cut India's GDP growth forecast to 6.3 per cent for fiscal year 2020 from its earlier forecast of 6.9 per
cent.
• This comes after the GDP growth was at its slowest in almost 6 years and grew only at 5 per cent in the first
quarter.
• Earlier, Moody's too had revised India's GDP growth forecast for the current year to 6.2 per cent.
Banks to link lending rate to ext benchmark
• The RBI made it mandatory for banks to link their retail and MSME loans to external interest rate
benchmarks.
• Home, car and personal loans for travel are expected to fall benefiting borrowers.
• This new norm will be effective October 1 where banks have to migrate from the Marginal Cost of Lending
Rate regime to external benchmarking and will have the freedom to choose which one to follow.
B K Modi launched OCI investment platform
• Businessman B K Modi announced the setting of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Investment Forum with a
proposed fund size of $100 billion.
• As its first project, the OCI investor forum will undertake investment in the region of Kashmir to develop
100 Global Wellness Hotels in Kashmir.
• Other key sectors of investment will include healthcare, real estate and education.
PAN for people filing ITR with Aadhaar
• The Income Tax Department will automatically issue PAN to a taxpayer using Aadhaar number for filing
returns as part of a new arrangement to link the two databases.
• A person who furnishes Aadhaar, as they do not have PAN, shall be deemed to have applied for allotment
of PAN and they will not be required to apply or submit any more documents.
• The rule has come into effect from Sept. 1, 2019.

• Regulatory sandbox (RS) usually refers to live testing of new products or services in a controlled/test
regulatory environment.
RBI releases annual report
• According to the RBI's Annual Report, the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) balance sheet expanded by
13.42% to Rs 41.03 lakh crore while its income soared by 146.59% to Rs 1.93 lakh crore in 2018-19.
• Interest income grew 44.62% to Rs 1.06 lakh crore.
• The RBI's holding of government securities grew by 57.19%.
Samsung India ties up with Mastercard
• Mastercard, RBL Bank and Samsung India have announced the launch of Samsung Pay for RBL Bank’s credit
cardholders.
• The partnership will allow RBL Bank Mastercard credit cardholders to make contactless mobile payments
using their Samsung Pay-enabled phones.
• These payments can be made via any PoS (Point of Sale) machine where a card can be dipped, swiped or
tapped, both in India and abroad.
NPCI caps BHIM UPI discount rate
• To drive digital payments in both small and large merchants’ transactions, the National Payments
Corporation of India (NPCI) said the BHIM UPI merchant discount rate (MDR) for large ticket transactions
has been capped at a maximum of Rs 100 and made zero at offline merchants for transactions up to Rs 100.
• Currently, MDR is capped at 0.25% for transactions up to Rs 2000.
GDP growth at 5% in Q1 FY20
• India’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth slumped to a 25-quarter low of 5% in Q1 FY20.
• The slowdown in investment and consumer demand derailed manufacturing, which grew just 0.6%.
• A meagre 2% rise in farm sector added to the demand slowdown.
• Private Consumption collapsed to an 18-quarter low of 3.1% from 10.6% in the March quarter.
TDS on cash withdrawal above ₹1 crore
• The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that the 2% tax deduction at source (TDS) on cash
withdrawals of over Rs 1 crore will come into effect from 1 September 2019.
• The government had made the provision of levying 2 per cent TDS on cash withdrawals exceeding Rs 1
crore in the Union Budget with an aim to discourage cash transactions and move towards a less-cash
economy.

• For the first time, the US and India will be holding the tri-service military exercise.

• The Indian Army conducted a massive rare exercise ‘Chang Thang’ in Eastern Ladakh bordering China.
• The exercise involved the use of infantry, mechanised forces, T-72 tanks, with force multipliers such as
artillery guns and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
• The Indian Air Force was also roped in the exercise.
• This is the first time such kind of exercise has happened in the region.

• Indian Air Force has successfully flight-tested air-to-air missile Astra off the coast of Odisha.
• The missile was launched from a Sukhoi Su-30 MKI combat aircraft on 16 September 2019 as a part of User

• The missile has been developed by DRDO.

• Wing Commander Anjali Singh has become India's first female military diplomat to be posted in any of the
Indian missions abroad.

• Singh, who is trained on MiG-29 fighter aircraft, joined her new assignment on September 10, 2019.
• An air attaché is an Air Force officer who is part of a diplomatic mission.
Wargaming software handed over to Indian Navy
• Institute for Systems Studies and Analysis (ISSA) Delhi, has designed and developed a new generation
Wargaming Software in collaboration with Maritime Warfare Centre, Visakhapatnam to meet the
contemporary operational and tactical level wargaming requirement for the Indian Navy.

IN-RSN-RTN Trilateral Exercise commenced
• A maiden trilateral exercise, involving Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), Royal Thailand Navy (RTN) and
Indian Navy (IN) commenced at Port Blair on 16 September 2019.
• The five-day-long exercise is aimed at bolstering the maritime inter-relationships amongst Singapore,
Thailand and India.
• This would also strengthen the mutual confidence amongst three navies in terms of interoperability.
Exercise TSENTR 2019 started off
• The opening ceremony of Exercise TSENTR 2019 was conducted at the DONGUZ Ranges near Orenburg in
Russia's Central Military District on 15 September 2019.
• It aims at countering the threat of international terrorism
• As many as 2,500 personnel and 500 vehicles from all participating nations took part in the ceremony.

• India's second Scorpene-class attack submarine INS Khanderi will be commissioned into the Navy by
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Mumbai on September 28, 2019.
• The conventional diesel-electric submarine has been manufactured by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd in
Mumbai.
• The first Scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari had been commissioned into the Indian Navy in December
2017.
Rajnath Singh to visit France in October
• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to receive the first of 36 Rafale fighter jets in Paris on October 8, 2019
-- the foundation day of the Indian Air Force.
• He will travel to Paris on October 7 on a three-day visit.
• India had signed an inter-governmental agreement with France in September 2016 for procurement of 36
Rafale fighter jets at a cost of around Rs 58,000 crore.
MPATGM successfully test fired
• DRDO successfully flight tested indigenously developed low weight, fire and forget Man Portable Antitank
Guided Missile (MPATGM) in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh on 11 Sept 2019.
• The missile hit the target in top attack mode and destroyed it with precision.
• All the mission objectives were met.
• This is the third series of successful testing of MPATGM.
India to spend $130 bn to modernise military
• India has finalised to spend $130 billion in the next 5-7 years to modernise the armed forces and bolster
their combat capabilities over rivals in the region.
• The plan includes procurement of a range of weapons, missiles, air defence systems, fighter jets,
submarines and warships, drones, surveillance equipment and developing infrastructure for extensive use
of artificial intelligence.

Indian Army to participate in TSENTR 2019
• Indian army will participate in a multilateral exercise TSENTR 2019 to be held in Russia.
• Armies of Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Russia will also participate in
the exercise.
• This will be the first time that forces from India and Pakistan will participate in a multilateral exercise
together since the Balakot airstrikes conducted by Indian forces.
IAF pilots clear test for Mission Gaganyaan
• The Indian Air force announced the completion of level-1 selection of Indian astronauts for Mission
Gaganyaan, the country's first human mission to space.
• Level-1 of Indian Astronaut selection was conducted at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine.
• Selected Test Pilots underwent extensive physical exercise tests, lab investigations, radiological tests, and
clinical tests.
SLINEX 2019 to be held from 7 September
• Sri Lankan Navy is sending two ships to India to participate in the SLINEX 2019, the joint maritime naval
exercise with the Indian Navy.
• The annual Joint Indo-Lanka maritime fleet exercise - SLINEX 2019 is scheduled to be held from 7

• The week-long exercise will be attended by 323 Sri Lankan navy personnel including the commanding flag

• The IAF had signed a contract with the US and Boeing Ltd in Sept. 2015 for purchase of 22 Apache
helicopters.

• American aerospace major Boeing delivered the 11th C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft to the Indian
Air Force, boosting its strategic airlift capabilities.
• The C-17 Globemaster III is a premier transport aircraft.

Delhi-Meerut Package-3 inaugurated
• Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Delhi-Meerut Package-3

• The package is a 22 kilometre-long stretch built with a cost of 1989 crore rupees.
• The package has six-lane section with two plus two lane service road on either sides.
• The 82 kilometre-long Delhi-Meerut Expressway connects Delhi with Meerut in UP.

• Minister for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension Dr Jitendra Singh launched Centralized Public
Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) of Department of Posts on 25 September 2019.
• CPGRAMS primarily aims to enable submission of Grievances by citizens from anywhere and anytime.
• CPGRAMS is an on-line web-enabled system developed by National Informatics Centre.
Government launched new framework
• The Union Jal Shakti Ministry’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), launched a 10-year
national rural sanitation strategy to sustain India’s 100 per cent Open Defecation Free (ODF) status claimed
by the Centre.
• The framework, to be in place from 2019 to 2029, will ensure that people sustain their usage of toilets. It
will also focus on solid and liquid waste management.
West Bengal Government To Set Up Museum
• West Bengal government plans to set up a museum at the north Kolkata house of 19th century social
reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.
• The museum will come up at Vidyasagar's residence at Badur Bagan area where pictures and models,
chronicling his life from his birth place will be put on display.
• Some items used by Vidyasagar will be brought out for public viewing at the museum.

UP to launch industrial projects
• After laying the foundation of industrial projects worth more than Rs 1.25 trillion over the past 15 months,

• Centre has approved construction of 1.23 lakh more houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
• The 47th Central Sanctioning And Monitoring Committee approved 630 proposals from participating states
for construction of 1.23 lakh houses with an overall investment of 4,988 crore rupees.
• The commitment from government as central assistance will be 1,805 crore rupees.
Delhi HC launched mobile app for lawyers
• The Delhi HC launched an official mobile application for providing digital access of its services to lawyers
and litigants.
• The application provides details of case status, display board, cause list and access to other important links
of the high court website.
• The advocates registered with the High Court's e-filing software will also be able to apply for e-inspection
and online gate pass.
112 emergency helpline no. launched in Delhi
• A single emergency number -112- was launched for police, fire and ambulance emergency services.
• Now, the citizens of Delhi can avail the facility of all these three emergency services by dialing the number -

Muzaffarpur Administration launched drives
• In Bihar, Muzaffarpur District Administration launched several drives for nutritional, sanitation needs and
medical facilities for Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) affected blocks.
• 5 blocks of the district Mushari, Bochahan, Motipur, Kanti and Minapur are said to be epicentre of AES,
which claimed lives of 160 children.

Punjab, Haryana to ban e-cigarettes
• In Punjab and Haryana the people and the governments have welcomed the ordinance brought by Central
government to ban the e-cigarettes.
• According to the ordinance, first time violators will face a jail term of up to one year and a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
• The storage of e-cigarettes shall now be punishable with imprisonment of up to six months or a fine of up
to Rs 50,000 or both.
UP: Screening of malnourished children easy
• In UP, Mobile App of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram has made screening and referral of malnourished
children easy.
• During the first fortnight of Poshan Maah in the state, a total of 8,405 children have been identified and
referred using this App.
• Majority of these identified children were suffering from Vitamin A deficiency while some were having low
hemoglobin and Vitamin D.

• Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting launched Wipro Consumer Care–Ventures, a startup venture fund to

Telecom body approved projects
• The Digital Communication Commission has approved multiple projects worth over Rs 8,500 crore.
• The projects aim to set up mobile towers and laying of optical fibre, to provide improved connectivity.
• A special scheme to cover upto 12,000 uncovered villages in aspirational districts was also approved.
• The approved infra projects include laying of BharatNet fibre in Tamil Nadu and Telangana,
NTPC to build India’s biggest solar park
• National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) plans to set up a 5-gigawatt solar park in the western
state of Gujarat, which would be the biggest in the country.
• The plan is part of NTPC’s aim to reduce the share of fossil fuels in the energy mix to 70% from around 96%
by 2032.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi is targeting 175 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2022.

Scope of Bharat Bill Payment System expanded
• The RBI has expanded the scope of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) by adding other categories of
recurring payments through the portal.
• BBPS is an interoperable platform that enables a customer to pay bills such as telephone, water, gas, at a
single location.
• With the expansion of the scope of the payment facility, other recurring payments such as school fees can
also be paid via BBPS.
Steel Import Monitoring System launched

• Union Minister Prakash Javadekar announced that 118 new Community Radio Stations (CRS) are in the
process of being set-up.
• Community Radios are small (low power) FM radio stations with a coverage area of around 10-15 Km
radius, depending on the geography of the area.
• CRSs act as essential communication channels for enhancing the last mile of the outreach of government.
Government inducts first batch of ISDS
• The government has inducted the first batch of the Indian Skill Development Services (ISDS), the newest
central government Group A services on 9 September 2019.
• The ISDS has 263 all India posts.
• This service has been specially created for the training directorate of the ministry of skill development and

• The first-ever public information portal - Jan Soochna Portal-2019 - was launched in Rajasthan on 13

• The State government has collaborated with the civil society groups to develop the portal.
Jaldoot vehicle flagged off in Pune
• Union Minister for Environment and Forest and Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar flagged off a
Jaldoot vehicle in Pune.
• The van carrying the 'SAVE WATER' message will travel to different parts of the state.
• An exhibition on 100 days of Union Government has also been organized on the occasion by Regional
Outreach Bureau in Pune.
NGT constituted committee
• The National Green Tribunal has constituted a committee to formulate steps to cease illegal groundwater
extraction.
• The committee aims to ensure that groundwater is not illegally extracted and to monitor manning and
functioning of the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA).
• The committee comprises joint secretaries of Ministry of Environment and Forests and Ministry of Water
Resources.
J&K: Rs 827-crore plan approved
• In J&K, a plan of 827 crore rupees has been approved under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes.

WB to implement 6th Pay Commission from Jan 1
• The recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission for West Bengal Government Employees will come into
effect from January 1, 2020.
• The Commission has submitted its first report to the Government and her Government will accept of its
recommendations.
• As per recommendations of the Pay Commission, the Minimum Gross Pay of an Employee will stand at 20
thousand 146 rupees.
ESIC plans 100 bedded hospital for Srinagar
• Employees' State Insurance Corporation, ESIC, will set-up 100 bedded hospital at Srinagar and 30 bedded
hospital at Leh.
• The approval has also been accorded to provide cashless Secondary and Tertiary medical care services
under Ayushman Bharat package rates to entitled ESI Beneficiaries.
• The treatment will be given in the newly implemented area of 102 designated Districts.
Amit Shah launched 'Seva Saptah'
• Home Minister Amit Shah launched a week-long programme 'Seva Saptah' to mark the birthday of PM
Narendra Modi on 17 Sept. 2019.
• He launched the campaign by joining cleanliness drive and distributing fruits among the patients at AIIMS in
Delhi.
• Three pledges will also be administrated among the people related to Swachata Abhiyan, save water and
shunning single-use plastic.
Centre to set up 12,500 Ayush Wellness Centres
• Union Government has set a target of setting up 12,500 Ayush Health and Wellness Centres across the
country.
• Out of which four thousand will be set up during 2019.
• The Unani Medical Centre and Siddha Clinical Research Unit will provide holistic health care to patients
visiting Safdarjung Hospital from different parts of the country.
Curriculum for Life Skills launched
• Union Minister of State for HRD Sanjay Dhotre, launched the Curriculum for Life Skills (JeevanKaushal)
designed by University Grants Commission (UGC), in New Delhi on 11 September 2019.
• The curriculum covers the set of human talents acquired by an individual via classroom learning or life
experience that can help them to deal with problems encountered in day to day life.
Rs 1680 cr water supply scheme for Aurangabad
• Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis approved a 1680.50 crore rupees water supply scheme for Aurangabad
in Marathwada region.
• Around 16 lakh people of Aurangabad will be benefitted by the scheme which envisages supply of water
directly from the Jayakwadi dam.
• \Marathwada comprising eight districts has traditionally been a low-rainfall area.

Gujarat government reduced traffic fine
• The Gujarat government reduced fine amounts stipulated in the new Motor Vehicles Act passed recently.
• The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019 was passed by Parliament in July and its steep fines were to
come into effect from 1 September 2019.
• The penalty for driving without a licence has been brought down from ₹5,000 to ₹2000 for two-wheelers
and ₹3000 for four-wheelers.
UP govt announced Agriculture Export policy
• Uttar Pradesh Government has announced it's maiden Agriculture Export policy, 2019.
• The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting on 10 September 2019 chaired by Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath.
• Cabinet also cleared a proposal to compensate victims of lynching as directed by the Supreme Court.
• The policy will target to augment farmers’s income and promote export of farm commodities.
Campaign against plastic began in Bihar
• In Bihar, the campaign against single used plastic began on 11 September 2019.
• Mass Awareness Campaign was launched by holding Swatchha Hi Seva campaign from 11 September till 1
October 2019 from Urban areas to villages.
• Under this campaign, single used plastic will be collected at ward level and it will be sent to collection
centres of local bodies for recycling.
MP: 313 Anganwadi centres developed
• In Madhya Pradesh, 313 Anganwadi centres have been developed as Child Education Centre under
Rashtriya Poshan Maah - National Nutritional Campaign.
• These centres are now providing primary education along with distribution of nutritious food.
• 27 thousand smartphones have also been provided in the state for monitoring of nutritional food
distribution in Anganwadi centres.
J&K: 85,000 LPG refills distributed
• In Jammu and Kashmir, 85,000 LPG refills have been distributed through home-deliveries to consumers in
Srinagar in last three weeks.
• The number includes 60,000 refills distributed in the last two weeks of August and 25,000 distributed in the
first week of September 2019.
• Moreover, since September 1 around 50 thousand quintals of rice has been distributed among consumers
in Srinagar.
Centre set up 3-member panel
• Centre has set up a three-member panel to oversee the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union
Territories.
• The committee will look into the distribution of assets and liabilities of Jammu and Kashmir between two
successor Union territories, which will come into existence on 31 October 2019.
• The committee will be headed by Former Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra.
2nd Multi-Modal Terminal to be inaugurated

• PM Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation India’s second riverine Multi-Modal terminal (MMT) built at
Sahibganj in Jharkhand on 11 September 2019.
• It has been built at a cost of 290 crore rupees in a record time of about two years.
• This is the second of the three Multi-Modal Terminals being constructed on river Ganga under Jal Marg
Vikas Project.
ANGAN- A 3-day Conferencen began in New Delhi
• An international conference ANGAN (Augmenting Nature by Green Affordable New-habitat) focussed on
Energy Efficiency in Building Sector began on 9 September 2019.
• The Conference is being organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government
of India.
• It will provide a platform to deliberate on interdependence between organizations and systemic
sustainability.
Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated PRA-KASHI
• Union Minister of State for Culture & Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated the exhibition PRA-KASHI on
the finest trends of contemporary weaving, in New Delhi on 9 September 2019.
• The National Museum in collaboration with Devi Art Foundation has organized this exhibition.
• The exhibition will remain open for general public till 8th October 2019 between 10 am to 6 pm on Tuesday
to Friday.
1st SCO conference on military medicine
• India will host the first conference on military medicine for member nations of the Shanghai Co-operation
Organisation (SCO) in New Delhi from 12-13 September 2019.
• It will be the first military co-operation event to be organised in India under the SCO after it joined the
organisation in 2017.
• The objective of the conference is to share best practices in the field of military medicine.
India to raise target to restore degraded land
• India will raise target of restoring land with degraded status from 21 million hectares to 26 million by 2030.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this while addressing the 14th Conference of Parties (COP14) of the UN
Convention to Combat Desertification(UNCCD) in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh on 9 September 2019.
• Desertification affects over two-thirds of the countries of the world.
DPIIT to launch a campaign
• Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of Commerce Ministry will launch plastic
waste management campaign under Swachhta Hi Sewa 2019 on 11 September 2019.
• Under the campaign, DPIIT will ensure recycling of plastic waste collected on 2nd October 2019 in cement
kilns.
• It will also collect plastic waste through nationwide shramdaan on 2nd October 2019.
Aadhaar-enabled payment services rolled out
• The government announced the rollout of Aadhaar Enabled Payment System Services by India Post
Payments Bank.
• With this launch, IPPB has become the single largest platform in the country for providing interoperable
banking services to customers of any bank by leveraging the last mile unprecedented reach of the Postal
network.

• World Bank will fund ‘pro-poor tourism’ (PPT) development projects worth more than $57 million in top
tourist hotspots of Agra and Braj-Mathura regions in Uttar Pradesh.
• While the World Bank will incur 70% of the project cost, the remaining 30% will be borne by the UP
government.
• Pro-poor tourism is a holistic tourism concept aimed at poverty alleviation.

• The exhibition ‘Superbugs: The End of Antibiotics?’ was inaugurated on 6 September 2019 at National
Science Centre, New Delhi.
• The Exhibition explores how society is responding to the enormous challenge of antimicrobial resistance

Uttar Pradesh Launches 'C-Plan' App
• The Uttar Pradesh Police has launched a ‘C-Plan’ smartphone application that will help them keep a tab on
anti-social elements to counter their nefarious designs in time.
• The app will not only help police to be informed of simmering communal tensions or other disputes taking
place even in far-flung villages by common people but also help them verify the received information.
Food ministry to ban single-use plastic
• Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry has decided to ban single-use plastic in its various departments as well
as the public sector units under its administration from September 15.
• The decision was taken at a meeting held by Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
• Cloth or jute bags, locally tailored and produced, can be a viable alternative.
PM Modi to launch a programme
• PM Narendra Modi will be launching National Animal Disease Control Programme for Foot and Mouth
Disease and Brucellosis on 11 September 2019 in Mathura.
• He will also launch National Artificial Insemination Programme during the event.
• He will visit Pashu Vigyan Evam Arogya Mela and launch Babugarh Sex Semen facility and simultaneous
countrywide workshops in Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).
Sex ratio improved from 918 to 931 in 5 years
• States and districts were honoured on 6 September 2019 for improved sex ratio and awareness generation
under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.
• Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh received honours for improving sex ratio at birth.
• The country has made remarkable 13 points jump in national sex ratio from 918 to 931 in last 5 years.
PM Modi to visit Mumbai
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mumbai and Aurangabad on 7 September 2019 to inaugurate a slew
of new projects.
• He laid the foundation stone for three Metro corridors worth over 19,000 crore rupees.
• He inaugurated the first coach for Mumbai Metro built under the 'Make in India' programme.

Jio Fiber: India's latest broadband service
• A high-speed broadband service, Jio Fiber was launched on 5 September 2019.
• Jio Fiber's annual plans include free TVs, set-top boxes and subscriptions to premium streaming services.
• Reliance will charge subscribers $10 to $118 a month for speeds ranging from 100Mbps-1Gbps.
• The free services are coupled with low-cost internet.
Mobile Science Exhibition flagged off
• The Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel flagged off the first-ever Mobile
Science Exhibition (SCIENCE EXPLORER) for the entire Ladakh Region in Leh on 5 September 2019.
• The Union Culture Minister simultaneously launched 25 new Mobile Science Exhibition buses for
Aspirational Districts of India.
• Topics for the exhibition are measurement, food & health, etc.
IGI Airport gets India's tallest ATC Tower
• The tallest ATC tower in the country was inaugurated at the IGI Airport.
• The Delhi Air Traffic Service Complex, which is the tallest Air Traffic Control tower in India with a height of
102 metres.
• The new complex comprises of three buildings - the Aerodrome Control Tower, Area & Approach Control
Services Building and the Administrative Block.
• Mumbai Airport's tower was the tallest till now.
NYKS to prepare Disaster Response Teams
• In collaboration with National Disaster Response Force, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan under Dept of Youth
Affairs of MoYAS will prepare Block Level Disaster Response Teams.
• The team has been constituted for Disaster Risk Reduction.
• The trained NYKS Youth Volunteers will work as DRTs and will be called ‘NDRF- friends’.
• They will act as first responders in NDRF selected hazard prone districts.

• A joint India- New Development Bank workshop was held in New Delhi.
• The workshop was organized to enhance the NDB’s engagement with the India’s private and public sector.
• The NDB is the first Multilateral Development Bank established by developing countries and emerging
