Cutlery Reflection Assignment

My first experience at Restaurant International was delightful. The first thing I noticed was
how well-dressed everyone at the table was. It was a relief knowing that I wasn’t the only one
wearing a suit. I introduced myself to the people at my table, and we began to have a
conversation regarding what programs we were studying. The group was surprised to find out
that my program was Police Foundations. If my memory has not failed me, some of the people
at the table were studying business, others were studying information technology. We decided
to put our phones away to have a better experience. We placed the phones on top of each
other and decided not to use the phones during our entire stay. While we were engaged in our
discussion, the waiter approached us with the menu and filled our cups with water. After
reading the menu, I decided to have the Ceasar Salad as a starter. I placed the napkin on my lap
to keep myself clean and I ate the Caesar Salad with a fork. Later, I ordered the Penne Pasta for
the main course. I barely had to use the knife when eating the pasta. I found that I was using
only one utensil for the most part. Most of the people at the table, including myself, used the
continental-style when using utensils. Everyone at the table used the same hands when using
the utensils. I did notice that one of the people present used his hands to eat a part of his meal.
I also noticed that some of the people would put their elbows on the table. This gave me the
idea that maybe they aren’t used to eating this way and perhaps they forgot to remove their
elbows from the table. The service at the restaurant was great. The waiter made sure that there
were no empty plates left on the table. He kept coming back to ask us if we needed anything
and was very helpful, topping off our cups every time the water level was low, or the cup was
empty. For the most part, the experience was normal. I tend to be silent when I eat, so I did not
engage in any conversations while eating. After I finished eating, I asked for the bill. The waiter
told me the food was free, and the people around me started to laugh at my mistake. I, too,
laughed.
