In grade 11, I was in a co-op, and it inspired me to want to be a labour and delivery nurse;

seeing life brought into the world, the fast-paced atmosphere, and taking care of babies

influenced my choice. When I initially saw a baby be born, I was practically brought to tears.

Seeing all the pain, the mother was willing to put herself through, so her child is born, was

beautiful. When she finished delivering the baby, you can see the tears of joy rolling down her

face. Witnessing that, I knew it was something that I desired to be apart of. I wanted to be apart

of bearing life into the world; enable people to know I bring the next generation into the world.

The second reason why I wanted to become a nurse, was I enjoying being in a face-paced

environment. The nurses in my co-op were consistently on their feet doing something. Either it

was charting away a patient antenatal, or assisting a doctor in a delivery. The nurses were doing

more than a doctor and I respected them for that. I enjoyed that atmosphere because I do not like

to sit around and feel unproductive. I believe that this job will keep me busy, without feeling like

I am doing something repetitive. The ultimate thing that encouraged me to want to be a nurse

was, me being able to nurture babies. I enjoy being in the presence of babies and being able to

take care of them as a job would make me happy. At my co-op placement, feeding and bathing

the baby would make me so happy. I enjoy caregiving, especially for a human that has been on

earth for less than 24 hours. Just holding the child made me extremely happy, and expanded my
heart with joy. Being able to nurture newborns as a key part of my promising career, would

undoubtedly help prolong me wanting kids of my own. I would be typically experiencing the

long-time pros and cons of having a child and that would just frighten me to have my own. Being

at my placement, inspired me to genuinely want to become a nurse by, assisting in delivery,

witnessing the atmosphere, and taking care of the babies.
