Once a musical instrument generates sound vibrations, it reaches the human ear through various mediating objects, each of which significantly affects the sound.
The material and configuration of the instrument, the electric/electronic/magnetic amplifying system, the air and the reverberation of the room all affect the final sound.
Sound modeling, the latest DSP technology, “virtually” reconstructs these objects. Roland’s breakthrough Composite Object Sound Modeling (COSM) uses the advantages of

multiple modeling methods and succeeds in accurately emulating existing sounds, as well as producing sounds that have never before been created.

Roland/BOSS’s innovative Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) analyzes audio signals in many dimensions and applies ideal effects to each. By giving different dynamic

In 1977, the OD-1 Overdrive was released to wide acclaim,
praised by guitarists everywhere for its warm, natural tone.
Introduced the very next year, the DS-1 Distortion
featured a more aggressive tone, inspiring
countless players around the world with a new
high-gain sound.
Since the introduction of these landmark pedals over
35 years ago, BOSS has continued to refine and perfect
the technology of overdrive and distortion design.
The new OD-1X Overdrive and DS-1X Distortion represent the
roots of BOSS craftsmanship and decades of experience in
pursuing the “ideal distortion sound.”

Reborn in 2014, the OD-1X and DS-1X keep the innovation going.

Starting in April 2014, BOSS now offers a


five-year warranty on its entire line of pedals
in the compact series.
The packaging has also been refreshed with
a simple and cool new design.
