SLA GIS Data

The SLA GIS data is a 2D data set for the whole of Singapore.
The data set is provided as “shape files” (with an .shp extension),
which are a special type of file format used by Geographic
Information Systems (GIS).

Shape files can be opened (and exported to other formats) in a

GIS software called QGIS. QGIS is installed on all computers in
the computer labs, and can also be downloaded for free:

There is also a plugin for Rhino Grasshopper called Meerkat for

importing shape files into Rhino/Grasshopper.

Map Layers
The data is split up into different files, each containing specific
layers of information. For your convenience, the layers containing
polyline and polygons have been zipped into a single download.

QGIS Project
A QGIS file has also been created that already imports all the
map layers into a single file. Just unzip ‘map_layers.zip’ on your
hard drive, and you will find a file called ‘singapore_map.qgs’.
Open this with QGIS and you will see all the layers already
imported.
