V. Learning Content/s Simple Machines : Wedge

A wedge is a double inclined plane that is sharpened to an end.


Concept It can be used to separate two objects or portions of an object,
to lift up an object, or hold an object in place. The thinner the
wedge is; the lesser effort is needed to cut objects.
Wedge is a form of inclined plane with thick base and a sharp
edge. The wedge with single slanting side is a single wedge. The
wedge with two slanting sides is
a double wedge.

Group Activity: Guessing Game
Direction: The teacher will flash the uses of some wedges on
the screen. Each group will write the wedge referred on the
meta cards.
1. It is found in our body that cuts the food into tiny pieces.
2. It is used in slicing fruits and vegetables.
3. It is use to hold the door open or closed, or to prevent a door
from opening too widely..
4. Used in the sport of golf, known for being one of the
shortest- hitting clubs and providing the most loft on a shot.
5. It is used to lift and move materials over short distances.
6. Is used to adjust the distance between objects or to fill small
gaps.
7. Used to split and cut wood.
8. Is used for hand- sewing.
9. Used for carving or cutting hard material like wood by hand ,
struck with a mallet, or mechanical power.
10. Used to break up, pick at or chip at ice.
The group who earned the highest score is the winner.
