General Final butt welds connecting components which have been successfully tested may not be pressure tested provided itis demonstrated that pressure test can't be practically performed. ‘Scope This document describes the general requirement for golden welds application on hook-up pipe ‘spools with butt weld connection. This document is only applicable to a connection of a straight length of tube to another straight length of pipe. A minimum distance of 3D or 1000 mm shall be maintained between two successive closure welds. This document isnot applicable for connections welds onto fittings and for T-butt welds. 2. Relevant Codes and Standards ‘The applicator shall apply the most recent issue of the applicable codes and standards by the following associations and approval bodies as part of this procedure, a. American National Standard Institute (ANS): i, ANS 631.3 Chemical Plant and Petroleum Refinery Piping li, ANS 631.8 Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping. b. American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2002 edition, 3. Golden Welds Application ‘a. Preliminary check: DWGno., material, line number, thickness, joint identification, and approved WPS. b._ In-provess Examination. ‘The applicator welding inspector shall inspect and monitor the following task, before, during and after welding of golden weld, i, int preperation and cleanliness. ii, reheating iii, Fit-up, joint clearance and internal alignment prior to joining, iv. _ Variables specified by the joining procedure including filler material, electrode, v. Condition of the root passes after cleaning — external and internal, where accessible, aided by liquid penetrant ORmagnetic particle examination when specified in the engineering document. vi. Visual examination shall be performed in accordance with the BPV code, Section V, Article 9 Records of individual visual examinations are required. b. Magnetic Particle Examination. Magnetic Particle Examination of welds and of components other than castings shall be performed in accordance with BPV code, Section V, Article 7. cc. Liquid Penetrant Examination. Liquid Penetrant Examination of welds and of components other than castings shall be performed in accordance with BPV code, Section V, Article 6, 4. Radiographic Examination, Liquid Penetrant Examination of welds and of components other than castings shall be performed in accordance with BPV code, Section V, Article 2 5. QNQCDocumentation The applicator shall submit the following document to the company QA/ QCengineer/ representative for review and approval. @[SOand PD drawings related to the concerned golden welds, line numbers, and joint numbers. b. Approved WPSto be used. ©. In-process welding checklist endorsed and signed by the applicator and company welding inspector. d. Visual and NDTreports. .
