Topic Proposal: Physician Assistant

Since I have discovered the field of Physician Assistant, I have always had a strong passion for

this topic. Though my studies this year I would like to focus on the role of a Physician Assistant to

expand my knowledge as much as possible.

Throughout my middle school years, I have always loved and enjoyed my science classes. I did

not particularly do well in these classes due to them being one of the most difficult classes for me. At this

point I was unsure of whether I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. After entering high school,

my freshman year I took; Pre-AP Biology and Medical Terminology. These classes have been the most

interesting classes that I have taken by far. Everything we have done in these classes have helped me

decide that I definitely wanted to do something in the medical field. As a result, my sophomore year I

took Health Science I, Anatomy and Physiology, and Chemistry. Again, these classes have not failed my

expectations of being the best classes. Learning about the various Systems of the Body and the large

variety of careers in the medical field have led me to the thought of what career I want to pursue in the

medical field. I loved my biology and chemistry classes and unlike my middle school years I have done

an excellent job in them. After having an intense conversation with my health science teacher I have come

to the conclusion of being a physician assistant. She said that I had the correct skills for this career,

including interpersonal skills, patience, and ability to make effective decisions in times of stress.

My junior year of high school I was in Health science 2 where I trained to become a certified

clinical nurse aide. It was so much fun and doing rotations in the nursing homes gave me exposure to

patients care. I also had the opportunity to work with the healthcare team and medical professionals which

is something I have to get used to doing. My senior year of high school, I am in the EMT class which is

by far the most exciting. It really helped me adapt to making quick decisions in stressful times.

My personality type in the Myers-Briggs personality test was INFJ. Although I am an introvert,

the test shows that once I get used to people I am a lot friendlier with them. I have a natural tendency to

help people, and defending the people that I care about the most is important to me. I find it easy to make
connections with others, and have a talent for warm, sensitive language, speaking in human terms, rather

than with pure logic and facts. As a PA, these are important skills in order to effectively communicate

with a patient. Furthermore, I am also able to work well in a group setting and individual, meaning as a

PA I can work simultaneously with medical professionals such as physicians and provide the care the

patient needs. I am decisive and strong willed making it easy for me to know the proper care plan for the

patient's diagnosis. Interacting with patients and wanting to help them with the best of your ability is vital

as a PA, making me the perfect candidate.
