From Minimalism to Maximalism

In present times, digital perfection and beauty is expressed through

minimalism. Generous white space combined with not more than two

typefaces, supported by a shortened color palette and basic shapes are a few

elements that define the UI aesthetic. Everything is reduced to its functionality.

This simple and meaningful trend facilitates as no one before the business

market and maintains itself for almost a decade as the major influencer.

Regarding its benefits, there is a hardly assumed behavior: when every aspect

is minimalized you get lookalike designs. The good thing about this is, that

repetitiveness creates visual patterns and visual comfort. Users can navigate

blindly through any website they encounter. But is the identity of the brand

powerful enough expressed to be remembered?!

The solution of this debatable question might be maximalism - the counter

trend that rises up nowadays. We don’t find ourselves reliving the surrealism

revolution and maximalism isn’t here to reject definitively minimalism. It’s just
that design might get more decorative, more specific. The bridge between the

two movements is beginning to be built in architecture, interior design and

advertising. The results also show that having diverse options consumerism

gets higher. All odds all in favour of this union. So, it’s safe to say: a new trend

is in town.
