Philosophy of Education

There are many types of people in this world with many different personalities and

preferred ways of learning. These traits start at a very young age. I believe it’s important to

acknowledge these in the classroom and tailor lessons and instructions to fit everyone’s needs.

I also believe in having students exposed to a wide range of materials and art making

techniques and incorporating real world examples into the classroom.

Howard Gardener’s teaching theory explained how people have multiple intelligences. I

want to use this information when I teach. I will do my best to adapt to the different

intelligences in my lessons so that all my students will feel confident in their learning and be

able to excel. Using a wide range of different materials will also help in this goal because it

exposes the students to many different things. I hope that they can find something they can

really connect with and have fun with.

I believe real world experiences are important to teach as well. They can learn skills in

my classroom that they can take with them throughout their life such as, planning processes,

problem solving, working with others, and creative thinking. Having these skills will be helpful

no matter if my students pursue a career in art or not. I believe art can do so much for people.

Along with skill building, it can also be a stress relief or a way to voice your opinion. It is my goal

to guide students in however they want to use art.

That is why art is important to me. You can take it and use it however you want to. It is

my job to help students discover this while they practice with different art making techniques

and materials. In my classroom, I hope to cater to these wants and provide a safe space where

students can feel free to make creative risks and get messy.
