Lesson  Idea  Name:      Shapes
Content  Area:        Math
Grade  Level(s):      Kindergarten

Content Standard Addressed: MGSEK.G.1. Describe objects in the environment using names of
shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside,
in front of, behind, and next to.

Technology  Standard  Addressed:      Knowledge

Selected  Technology  Tool:      PowerPoint

URL(s)  to  support  the  lesson  (if  applicable):    N/A

Bloom’s  Taxonomy  Level(s):

☐    Remembering            ☒    Understanding            ☐    Applying              ☐    Analyzing                ☐    Evaluating              ☐    Creating

Levels  of  Technology  Integration  (LoTi  Level):
☐    Level  1:  Awareness                ☒    Level  2:  Exploration          ☐    Level  3:  Infusion            ☐    Level  4:  Integration

☐    Level  5:  Expansion                  ☐    Level  6:  Refinement

Universal  Design  for  Learning  (UDL):  This  lesson  will  support  all  students’  learning.  It  is  compatible  for  both
hearing  and  visually  impaired  students  because  the  PowerPoint  is  narrated.  It  will  also  support  students
who  is  speaking  English  as  a  second  language.  I  would  upload  this  PowerPoint  to  my  classroom  blog,  so  the
students  can  watch  and  go  over  it  however  many  times  they  need  to.  It  is  also  engaging  and  interesting
because  there  are  both  pictures  and  audio  attaches.

Lesson  idea  implementation:  As  I  address  these  standards,  the  students  will  be  shown  a  PowerPoint  with  the
attached  audio  of  an  eBook  of  different  shapes.  Before  I  show  them  the  PowerPoint,  I  will  ask  the  students  if
they  know  of  any  shapes.  I  will  see  if  they  can  point  any  of  them  out  to  me  in  the  classroom.  This  way,  I  will  be
able  to  assess  the  prior  knowledge  of  the  students  before  going  into  the  lesson.  This  is  when  I  would  show  the
PowerPoint.
After  the  PowerPoint,  I  will  again  ask  the  students  to  put  out  any  shapes  that  they  have  found  in  the
classroom.  We  will  then  move  outside  to  where  the  students  will  be  asked  to  put  out  more  shapes  and
depending  on  the  technology  either  take  pictures  of  them  or  draw  them.  To  further  enhance  this  lesson,  I
could  make  another  PowerPoint  with  the  students  and  their  shape  finding  and  allow  them  to  narrate  their
part  of  it.

Reflective  Practice:  This  lesson  is  designed  to  be  an  introductory  lesson.  It  is  meant  to  engage  the  students
and  have  them  pay  attention  in  class.  To  extend  this  lesson,  I  could  take  the  students  outside  of  the  classroom
and  have  them  either  take  pictures  of  or  draw  the  different  types  of  shapes  they  see  outside  in  the
environment
