Cats eye is
the stone of Ketu or South node. Ketu
belongs to Jamini Gotra. Ketu is often
depicted with a gem or star on his head
signifying a mystery light. The bhava
where Ketu is placed tends to suffer
from separation or segregation. Ketu
rules surgery, separation, a white hole,
narrow lanes, ghosts, super natural
entities, renunciation with a streak of
zero sensitivity.
Ketu represents karmic collections both
good and bad, spirituality and
supernatural influences. Ketu signifies the
spiritual process of the refinement of
materialization to spirit and is considered
both malefic and benefic, as it causes
sorrow and loss, and yet at the same time
turns the individual to God. In other
words, it causes material loss in order to
force a more spiritual outlook in the
person. Ketu is a karaka or indicator of
intelligence, wisdom, non-attachment,
fantasy, penetrating insight,
derangement, and psychic abilities. Ketu
is believed to bring prosperity to the devotee’s family, removes the effects of
snakebite and illness arising out of poisons. He grants good health, wealth and
cattle to his devotees. Ketu is the lord of three nakshatras or lunar mansions:
Ashvini, Magha and Mula.
The stone of Ketu is “Vaidurya Mani” or “Vitrag Mani”. It is called Chrysoberyl cat’s
eye. However, 80% stones sold in market as cat’s eye is not cat’s eye in reality. The
chatoyancy or chatoyancy (/ʃəˈtɔɪ.ənsi/ shə-TOY-ən-see), or chatoyance or cat’s
eye effect, is an optical reflectance effect seen in certain gemstones where the
center shows a streak of light. This effect can be seen in quartz, tiger, silimanite,
moon stone, alexandrite etc.
Because of the nature of chatoyancy and availablity of cheap quartz material the
sellers sell quartz cat’s eye as cat’s eye thereby duping people of their money. The
stone also shows no effect as it is not related to Ketu.

In the pic the first one with greyish tone is quartz cat’s eye. This is commonly sold
as cat’s eye. The second is Silimanite with a specific gravity of 3.25. This is also sold
as natural cat’s eye thereby demanding exorbitant prices of difference in colors.
The natural chrysoberyl cat’s eye has a specific gravity of 3.75 and is the real cat’s
eye. This is rare mineral and actually expensive then the other too. The price is
dependant on color and the fine line in center. Check pic 2. The one having a line
like a “Brahmin’s suta or zaneu” boons one with higher spiritual powers.
According to Ras Ratna pradeepika Cat’s eye which is yellow in color and carries a
fine clear line in center is capable of reducing all pittaj diseases, and increasing
knowledge and bodily vigor.
One which does not suffer from pancha Mahadoshas of Karkara, Sarkara, Trasa,
Kalanka and Deha and which sparkles like moonbeam can help a ascetic to control
his senses. It is also used as a powerful remedy against witchcraft.
