Q1. Write the comprehensive note on the importance of practical life exercises.

Ans: EPL are those exercises which are performed in daily activities by alders, these activities are actual
work perform in actual situations to maintain household activities. These exercises are important for every
child because it is build various qualities in the child. These activities develop confidence in children and
make them independence it is really important to children that they have a confidence to do their work
independently without any interference, The EPL environment in Montessori develop ”Love for Work”
which attract child to take interest in activities, this environment involved the child in interesting activities
and child feel pleasure in work. Working with child’s on hands and ways give child happiness and self-
satisfaction rather than do his work, after completing any action we can see the happiness on his face and
feel the self-satisfaction from his body language.

“There is place for everything, and everything has a place” this line give the proper explanation of place
must be organized and everything set on his place, Montessori class room environment is based on this
rule, shelves and cupboard that made child sized so children can learn easily to organized the things and
second rule is to tidier the place, after finishing any activity children must be clean the mess, throw useless
material in dustbin and reaming material place into their right place, make a habit of organized and tidier
place help them in future. It is also important to learn give and take with gracefully EPL helps a lot in this
manner. When a child grown up in these manner he will pass all these important and basic habits to his
younger. By doing these exercises child began to love everything thing which is belong to his and also he
started love and care about the whole universe living thing or non living things because it is become a part
of his personality which make him loyal, graceful, independent and responsible person and help him to
be good and perfect in any field.

Q2. Explain the different groups of exercises of practical life, How do you think this group is helpful?

Ans: The group of EPL are divided into four groups

1: Elementary Exercises 2: Exercises of personal care
3: Grace and courtesy exercises 4: Care of Environment Exercises.

1: Elementary Exercises are also divided into 3 sub divided groups, Basic, Elementary and Higher
Elementary Exercises. In Basic Exercises child just learn how to hold, carry and places things. In
Elementary Exercises the level of activities is bit advance they learn to opening and closing bottle cap,
folding and unfolding cloths and mats, Higher Elementary Exercises in this exercise activities are more
complex and complicated like use of drops cutting along a line etc.
2: In Personal Care Exercises child learn to take care of himself gaining confidence and grooming
himself. For example brushing teeth, clothing, etc.
3: Grace and courtesy’s exercises helps child that how to behave politely and educate basic manners,
greeting, apologize, eating, behaving with guests etc.

4: Care of Environment, in these exercises child learn to how to take care about environment and outdoor
activities, caring animals and feeding them, growing plants and take care of them, cleaning outside of their
houses. Indoor works dish washing, dusting, placed objects to their places.

Q3. What are the essential points that we should keep in mind while presenting EPL?

Ans: EPL presentation is an important and difficult task, when child admitted in Montessori School “EPL
should be taught to him stepwise with accuracy and intelligently”, teacher should be careful and
responsible for presenting it, a child is a good observer and he can easily follow his teacher. These activities
are start from easy to complex. Teacher know the right way to present it, rightly demonstrated and allow
the child to continue. Enjoying the activity before child join it, naturally child want to imitate the adults
after watching them, before present any activity teacher should be practice a lot with tools so this practice
improve teacher own skills and then she can presenting more precisely, demonstrate silently any activity
because language may be confused the child, give any lesson in pleasant and cheerful way so child feel
good to attempt it, keep the explanation short and brief and give the chance to child to continue the
activity, take child with you and briefly tell him what you will do and along him get the material related to
activity, after accomplishment take the material to its place with the help of child, before working with
dangerous material you should aware the child about its hard sides, tell the child and read with him the
instructions about activity, deeply observe the activity while child doing it and conclude result by asking
some questions by yourself about environment and child interest and understanding, after that if children
taking no longer interest in it should put away that, if there is need to be represent so repeat it, always
keep in mind that children might be repeat the demonstration rather than one time, if there any error in
child working teacher must not to be interrupted him, always applause child when he finish any activity
and never interrupt him it is might be harmful for his understanding and confidence. These are the main
important points of presenting EPL.

Q4: Try to explain ‘Formal setting of a Table’ and ‘Making a Chicken Spread Sandwich’ in the same way
EPL have been explained in the book for you.

Ans: Formal setting of table: Material:- 1 Salad Plate. 2 Butter spread. 3 Fork, spoon and Knife. 4 A drinking
glass of water. 5 Butter plate. 6 Napkin.
Presntation: 1 Gather all the material with the help of students. 2 Place dinner plate in the middle. 3 Put
the knife on the right side of plate and fork and spoon on the left side. 4 Salad plate should be placed next
to fork. 5 Place a glass of water right top on the dinner plate. 6 Put the napkin on the dinner plate. Repeat
this procedure one more time and more if there is need to be and then ask student to do it.
Chicken spread sandwich
I. 2 cups minced cooked chicken
II. ¼ cup mayonnaise
III. Salt and paper for taste

IV. Cayenne, garlic and onion powder for taste

Preparation:
I. First introduce all ingredient to students
II. Then start to make sandwich and add all ingredient one by one in bowl after mixing spread the
mixer on bread piece then put second slice on first one.
III. Cut in triangle shape of sandwich and place on plate.
IV. Then ask student to follow your steps.
